is that the county transportation authority is a very unique agency in that many respects it oversees the implementation of transportation and sales tax, so it's a very san francisco specific agency in that sense, and i think it's important to do a pretty comprehensive search, but i want to make sure that there's also a focus on the san francisco specific needs that we have including making sure that local internal candidates are part of the consideration because i do think that we're unique in many respects. >> i agree with that wholeheartedly. our outreach strategy is two fold. we always start with a focused area for a variety of reasons including economics. given the current economic conditions in the country lot of of relocation and family relationships and the others we try to start in this area and then build out from there, so although it's a national recruitment our first focus is local, then regional, then nationally

i am retired transportation planner working for fda and currently a member of the san francisco transportation authority citizens advisory committee. i am here speaking on my own behalf as a concerned neighbor. and i don't often comment and have to sit here for four hours waiting for the item to come up, now that i am retired. i felt this was important enough they wanted to be here. and i suspect all the elements of the agreement, including reducing the number of lanes at do llores and market. it will calm traffic and improve pedestrian safety. and as the staff report said it will only reduce the level of service by one second during the week and four seconds on saturday during the peak hour. and the impacts will be negative. and i have heard that some neighbors are concerned about a traffic bottle neck and the significant negative impact. and they question the objectivity of the analysis done. but it was my experience working with the city for the last 14 years. i can vouch for the integrity of the transportation and traffic analysis. the last speaker mentioned valencia street. and i was involved in va

to acknowledge the department of health and department of public works and the san francisco county transportation authority has been well-represented for the last few years by chester fong. the composition of the task force itself has been diverse, and they have devoted themselves to hours upon hours of work in the service of their community.. i can show you, if i can have the orford briefly here, a representation of more than 50 community members who served on the task force since it was first established. at the height of the task force's activity, we were holding more than five meetings per month. meetings of the full task force, as well as subcommittees, which addressed business and land use. which was chaired by paul lord. complete neighborhood fabric. and the arts and entertainment focus group, which was chaired by terrance allen. this was an exercise in both representative and participatory democracy, representative in that the 26-member task force represented a broad range of community stakeholders, and participatory, that we brought the meetings and the business of the task force down into the com

transportation issues, of course. * and drinking water. so, i used to attend many of your meetings before. i'm now more with [speaker not understood], san francisco county transportation authority and so on and so forth. but i want to bring to your attention is that i take public transportation. so, i really know what is happening when i take muni. * what we need to be very leery that all the tools that we have on our buses are some standard and in place. so, when we say we have cameras on our buses, we better have cameras on our buses. do not listen to anybody who states -- gives you some statistics on some incidents when their system itself has no standards. in other words, when somebody speaks, they can talk the talk. but to walk the walk you need empirical data. you need to have it vetted. so, i know a lot about the stats that the san francisco public -- the san francisco police department has. i know too much about it. those are my qualifications with incidents for having worked with the united states park police. but let me say to you all categorically, if you say you have cameras on our muni buses, they better be there. they better be there. that's all i want to say. tha

- we want people to know about transit and parking but not 80 just to look at san francisco but the transportation authority or look at caltrans we formed all these projects into one. so out of that before we go into the i railroad. by also existed are the new ideas. we we set up those new ideas not just for the warriors e i r but for the pier e i railroad. we also include how long it takes to get those projects in plays and what those costs are. that's a checkpoint to make the difference between a checkpoint and a reality. just to share. this is a very regional area the buses area. bart's already working on 25 trains to go up to 27 trains. it's a timing of it being measured by the developers. we've all followed with the planning around the market. we know your big pictures. but what are short term projects that can expand improvement. also on deck is california train improvements but there are some increased frequencies and we're tracking that as well. and, of course, the big downtown extinction to the downtown terminal. with gotten gates bus running they're not supposed to pick up people in san francisco

san francisco around transportation i can't remember whether it's 28 -- we have too many transit agencies in the bay area and it causes a lot of challenges around -- we are a region and our focus at the transportation authority is san francisco first but also regional connections and making sure we're working well with all of the other agencies in the bay area so it takes a special kind of person to be able to navigate that. in addition internally in san francisco any land use and transportation are linked it's constant work with the mta, with the planning department, with the port, with the public utilities commission and mayor's office and caltrans and bay authority. it's a lot of different personalities, a lot of agencies working together so i think it's so critical for the next director to be someone who can very, very effectively work collaboratively with all of these agencies and help bring them together too because the ta even though there is some project management primarily it's about planning and oversight and making sure that the tax dollars are being well spent so i want to encourage you to keep that very firmly in mind. this is a somewhat unique setting. >> i agree wholeheartedly. that's a good
