a respected teacher in san jose. marianne favreau joins us live from the school community in mourning now. >> reporter: they are. she was a fourth grade teacher who worked here for four years. the superintendent said she was known as a teacher who would always listen to students, especially when they needed support. now her colleagues are shocked to learn that her only son is accused of killing her. ryan garner is charged with murder after he allegedly killed his own mother, cynthia mccann on. on july 18th, garner assaulted his mom at the east san jose apartment they shared. they believe he then drove his injured mother to nearby regional medical center, left her, and drove off. officers arrested 35-year-old garner late they're night, using a police dog. mccann on died four days later. >> 40 plus officers, investigators and all sorts of people. >> shawn said my phone he was stunned to learn when it happened. >> hearing that somebody can go to that length. so hard to harm your own mom. it draws some kind of emotion. >
