officers from the sheriff's off and san jose police responded -- sheriff's office and san jose police respond. >> upon arrival, police officers as well as a deputy encountered a suspect and shots were fired and the suspect was pronounced dead. >> reporter: we don't know who that suspect is, his age, race or anything like that. just an adult male has been shot and killed up here. we don't know as i mentioned before which agency is responsible, but officers from the san jose police department as well as the sheriff's department are now downtown talking about this with investigators to determine which agency fired the fatal shot. so that could take quite sometime. neighbors are up here not knowing what may have prompted this. they say that there have been no incidents like this up here. this is a very rural area. only about five miles from downtown san jose, but maybe from the city lights, you can see, we are elevated in the foothills and it's a very rural area. so people can get around and can get hidden, there's a lot of cover up here. we don't know what the circumstances were, why thi

the police department from san jose, san jose pd, as well as the sheriff's department arrived almost simultaneously as far as we can tell. they encountered a man with a weapon, we are told. the reporting party said the man had a weapon of some sort. they are not saying what it was. so the sheriff's office deputies and the police arrived simultaneously. and shots ring out. several shots we're told. the man was shot dead at the scene. right now, police and the sheriff are trying to determine who or what agency, what officers, actually did the firing and hot person they shot and killed was. so very difficult situation right now. we're talking about two different things here, a remote location and a confusing call with very scant details in terms of what the deputies and police officers knew when they arrived. this area is buzzing with police as well as media, helicopters, neighbors up here. it's a very complete area up way up in the east foothills with a, you know, very large commanding view of the santa clara valley so very remote area for this type of situation to go on. >> len, just

reporting live in san jose, jenelle wang, abc 7 news. >> it's 6:05. n francisco's police chief is renewing his call to arm officers with tasers after two of his officers shot a man in a wheelchair. a witness captured this cellphone video of tuesday's shooting on howard street. the suspect had a knife and had been slashing tires. he stabbed an officer who tried to stop him. police ultimately opened fire with their handguns after an attempt to subdue the man with a beanbag gun failed. the officer and the suspect are expected to recover. the police commission voted against arming officers with tasers last march but they said they will look at the issue again in the coming months. >> a dozen peninsula school districts are suing san mateo county for its investments in lehman brothers. the school district lost $20 million during the investment firm's bankruptcy in 2008. they say the county should have protected their money through wiser investments. they contend the county invested too much in lehman holdings. an attorney representing san mateo county says i
