san jose neglected hotel may find life helping the homeless population. you've probably seen the plaza hotel, the mercury news repts that san jose city council members last night voted to turn the now-closed plaza into a homeless housing project. that plan calls for a major conversion of the hotel into new temporary apartments. plaza hotel has been empty for seven years believe it or not. san jose's former redevelopment agency purchased the property back in 2008. >>> and l.a. is taking in historic step to combat homelessness. the city declared a state of emergency. that declaration allows the city to ease some rules about homelessness. for instance, how many people in a church they could bring in. city leaders say its homeless population is up 10% over two years. the official count is more than 25,000. l.a. is the first city to make that kind of declaration anywhere in the united states. leaders say they want to spend $100 million on that problem though it's not clear where that money would come from. >>> a giant water district that provides drinking water for millions of southern californians is discussing the purchase of four delta islands. critics cla

city of san jose -- the city of san jose is considering raising minimum wage again. ters approved raising that minuimum wage to $10 and now joining other cities for a regional minimum wage increase. the city council will vote on whether to hire consultant to study the impact of raising the minimum wage. >>> berkeley city leaders set to hear a proposal for $19 minimum wage. that rate would go into effect by 2020, but a lot of critics have to be convinced first. many of the business community say the rate is simply too steep. >>> berkeley wants to raise the minimum wa minimum age of speakers. discussing banning toe back toe sales to anyone under 21. considering an amendment to have the stores have a tobacco license to sell e-cigarettes. >>> parking in palo alto's neighborhoods by permit only. some vehicles bearing the preferential program pooshgiark permits. driv drivers without them can only park for two hours in those areas. it prevents folks from using up parking spots all day long. over last month the city unveiled more than 800 parking by permit signs. starting tod
