kraig, we just spoke to police and they told me this deadly shooting actually started as a car chase in san leandro. sources within the police department tell me that a man and woman had stolen a jaguar. somehow san leandro police spotted them here where we are standing. but once you cross this intersection right here, this becomes oakland over. so over here in the middle of the intersection there are some chalk lines which are hard to see but that is where detectives traced the skid marks from this jaguar which ended up smacking into a car parked over here on this side of the street near the second telephone pole. now here is what we do know happened last night at 10:30. this is on the corner of bancroft. again, this is right on the border of the two cities. the suspects led police on a short chase. it only lasted a few minutes. before, during or after the crash gunfire erupted. several shots were fired. we are not sure how many. we just spoke to someone who lives nearby. he told us he heard sirens first and then he heard at least nine shots. we are told that the female suspect was shot and killed
