( mark ) happening now... a warning for people in the north bay about a debt collection scam. the sonoma county district attorney's office says people have been receiving fake debt collection letters form the higher balance institute. the letters threaten legal action that includes filing liens against property and additional penalties if the recipient of the letter contacts police. a representative from the higher balance institute says the letters are fake and that this has been going on for about three weeks.
