a quick look at the san rafael area. there are a couple crashes to the north and we'll check out santa rosa and i'll let you know how that is. and i want to bring our friend from an jose. it is wet. what are you dealing with this morning? >> yeah, my drive down 101 to get to downtown san jose saw a lot of drivers on the road people leaving earlier knowing the commute is going to be a mess. it's kind of quiet and the rain starting to come down a little heavier and get rough later through the morning. so, we saw moderate to heavy rains on the road. we did run into pockets of standing water oon the freeway. as the commute builds this morning, remember, so will the rain. it's important to plan accordingly. chp wants to remind all drivers, give other vehicles one to two extra seconds of follow time in the rain. that gives you and the cars behind you more time to react to traffic. remember in california, you must drive with your lights on, even in brought daylight and, for example, if your brake lights are out, it puts you and

area is problematic. already this morning, san rafael, san quentin seeing that. the areas of yellow and orange, significant rainfall coming down. it's really going to hover over the region for the next several hours into tomorrow. so we'll see this pick up later this afternoon. sausalito seeing heavy rain right now. south san francisco just got a lot of heavy rain and that's now moving further out east. highway 101 getting a lot of rainfall as well. it's widespread. any city in the region, you're dealing with it. also look at piedmont. i-580 will be very slick out there this morning, and will have ponding issues because of the rain coming down so quickly in a short amount of time. look at 680 right through there. this is all going to be moving east. it's coming from the coastline, picked up a lot of water and moisture as it made landfall. about a half inch per hour in these areas of orange here. if it stays over about 15 minutes or longer, that could be a lot of flash flooding concerns. we also have damaging winds expected from the storm system, gusts 40 to 50 mil

and san rafael as the >>> it's tuesday morning and here comes the first wave, a live look outside in san francisco and san rafael as the first of several storms moves through parts of the bay area. the time now 4:58. i'm marcus washington. >> and i'm laura garcia. does it ever just hit you, it's not even 5:00 a.m., it's so early. >> we are all up and ready to go. >> a lot of people are already up and moving. you do need to leave a little earlier this morning because we are going to have some fog and some wet roads in parts of the bay area. we're not seeing the rain everywhere and in the south bay we may miss out on the showers all together. we are already seeing it pushing off towards the east and we have seen it across parts of the east bay into the tri-valley and moving into the central valley. as we go through the rest of the day we will be drying out, but still partly to mostly cloudy skies as we get a closer look with some patchy fog. here is a look at our high temperatures, it's going to be a nice one with peeks of sunshine and highs in the mid 60s for the south bay, up to 60 degrees in santa rosa. we will talk more about that, but, mike, fog may be a factor for the drive

san francisco, 52 in concord. we will be chilly tonight because we lack the blanket of cloud cover over the bay area, san rafael tonight active and clear now until wednesday afternoon. let's talk about the mountains. the middle of the week another storm could drop up to about a foot of snow at about 5,000 feet in elevation. get high up above 7 or 8,000 feet, we could see 1 to 3 feet of new snow by friday morning. travel delays are likely, but we'll take the travel delays if we get the snowfall. your storm is sitting to the north and west of san francisco. there have been almost one every two tore three days the past two weeks -- or three days the past two weeks. we had one this morning. we have this one and then the storm track will stop carrying them into northern california and lift north. a ridge of high pressure will replace it and that means the train of storms every couple days will end once we hit thursday. tomorrow morning watch out for fog, especially san pablo points east and the central valley. in the afternoon we'll get blue sky. wednesday morning here comes the cloud cover and rain toward north sonoma coun

as we go into san francisco, hillsboro area seeing light rain. san rafaelad some really heavy rain just a few minutes ago. but starting to get a little bit lighter as you're heading out the door. might be a really good time. we're also starting to see that light rain moving across much of napa county and then as we head a little bit farther south we're seeing nothing but green here on the radar with some times of really heavy downpours that are starting to move through the trivalley. that's what we'll see the rest of the morning. we'll start to see more red on the map here by about 7:30 for parts of the north bay. that means some really heavy rain, some gusty winds and even a slight chance that we could have some thunderstorms. so, we do expect the rainfall intensity to pick up as we go into late morning, early afternoon. after all is said and done, we're looking that possibility of getting over three inches of rain for the santa cruz mountains and more than two inches of rain for parts of the north bay and that's the reason why we do have the flash flood w

now, as we get a live look outside in san rafael visibility still fairly good here. we've seen some areas where visibility has been reduced to pretty much nothing. that's what we are seeing right now in concord and livermore as well as half-moon bay. the seven-day forecast is up at the bottom of the screen. it's going to be in the mid 60s today, but then it gets a lot cooler. i don't think it will warm up too much because of the fog that we've seen moving out of the central valley into parts of the east bay. here is a look at where we are right now, 48 degrees in livermore, 57 degrees in san jose, you can even tell now the difference in those temperatures because of the fog. as you are starting out this morning you take a look out the window in san jose, getting dressed it will be a good day for light long sleeves and some pants, you will be comfortable with that. it is a very mild start here this morning with our high temperatures today up to 66 degrees in san jose, it will only make it up to 56 degrees in antioch and concord, 57 degrees. oakland expect a high of 60 degrees. we have thes
