nbc bay area's robert honda joins us from san jose to show us how bad it's going to get for the unhoused and how people are trying to help. reporter it's going to be another chilly night, and that means a lot of people will be out seeking warmth and shelter, sometimes taking desperate measures to escape the cold. san jose crews put out a fire at an abandoned building near the sap center this morning, and kept the flames from spreading into other empty buildings nearby. well, empty, except for possibly those who head into the buildings when it gets cold and, according to the fire department, may start fires to get warm. this is an active area along the guadalupe. there's a lot of unhoused in there. they have a lot of we do have a lot of nuisance fires, a lot of warming fires in that area. we've also had several fires in this building. the building in front of us has burned. previously, an unhoused person we talked to who was not at the building at the time, said he was glad he wasn't there when the fire started, but understands how it happens. anybody that's hungry is going to find food.

live outt in san franciso this morning, where it is a sort of cloudy day. i can see the shine there. kerry joins us now. hi, kerry. yeah, we are clouds over san francisco and also the rain approaching. it is just to the north of us. so as we take a look at storm ranger, we are seeing the waves of heavier rain still well, to the north, but affecting the north bay commute. and we're going to see that continuing for several more hours as the storm system arrives. it won't be as strong as the storm we had over the weekend, but still affecting us after. we're still trying to clean up from that strong storm that is now pushed to the south. so as we take a look from our emeryville camera across the bay bridge and into san francisco, right now we're at 48 degrees and expect the rain to begin at about 7:00. so we will see a couple of more dry hours for your commute. if you're up early and about to head out the door. but then we'll continue to see the rain into late morning as well as the afternoon, and we could pick up another half of an inch of rainfall to three quarters of an inch from mill valley to oakl
