>> sandhya, thanks so much. the storm has had a serious impact on flights in and out of the bay area. kate larson joins us live now where people have been changing travel plans in a hurry. >> reporter: that's right. many flights from sfo to the hawaiian islands have been canceled. but i'm hearing from passengers that airlines are actually adding flights to get people out of hawaii. but first, let's take a look at why so many people are worried about hurricane lane to begin with. video from the rainbow falls shows how much water hurricane lane is bringing to the island. >> lots and lots of rain. i mean, it's pumping over here. >> reporter: she says this photo shows what the area above the falls normally looks like. but once lane brought in the rain wednesday, she took this video of the river swelling. 24 hours later and there's more water overflowing. travelers flying to and from sfo show eed an abundance of cautio. >> we welt felt like we were in danger. >> reporter: this couple lives in vermont, but decided to

>> thank you, sandhya. obviously it's not exactly paradise given the weather situation. people at bay area airports are still showing up to fly to hawaii. matt keller has that part of the story. >> reporter: workers were on the clock at the san jose airport without much to do. their morning daily flight to honolulu was cancelled. the 7:30 a.m. flight to maui was delayed until 12:15 p.m. many people have already cancelled their trip due to hurricane lane. except michael west ling. he's trying to get home. he's been checking in with his wife. >> winds are picking up, rain hasn't been too much as of late. >> reporter: we witnessed the takeoff of alaska flight 867 about 9:15 this morning. alaska cancelled their morning flight to maui. hurricane lane is causing major problems on hawaii's big island. officials say three major roads were closed friday because of flash flooding. michael westling is expecting his home to get hit hard as well. >> a lot of tourists are wondering what to do, a lot of us tied everything down, put it away. with the big island getting 20 inches of rain

the air is getting cleaner, and that's good news, sandhya. . that is indeed. and we can breathe a little easier as a result, dan and kristen. i want to show you time lapse from our mount tamalpais camera as we have a very deep marine layer in place. it was rushing back in over the bay from the coast. and if you look carefully here, there was still a little bit of a sign of some smoke from the wildfire, especially in the north bay. now air quality has started to improve. and over the next two days, you're going to notice much better air quality on wednesday it's going to be good. tomorrow still moderate for parts. live doppler 7 showing you how gray it is right now. it is pretty much cloudy into san jose, concord. you know it's a deep marine layer when you see clouds marching all with a t way into the inland valleys. one of the reasons for the cooler than average pattern today and again tomorrow is we're under the influence of a trough instead of a ridge of high pressure. so when you have this area of low pressure to our north, it keeps us in an onshore flow mo

. >> i'm meteorologist sandhya patel. >>> disturbing new details in the disappearance of brian egg of san francisco in a gruesome case. abc7 news reporter vic lee has more on what we are learning about a person of interest in this case. >> reporter: lance silva, person of interest in the case of missing brian egg, alameda county prosecutors say he violated his probation on a grand theft conviction seven years ago. this, after san francisco police arrested him two weeks ago for financial crimes, i.d. theft, and homicide. these charges related to the disappearance of the 65-year-old man who lived in this south of market home. police found a body without a head or hands in a fish tank. but san francisco prosecutors declined to file formal charges, saying the investigation continues. abc7 news obtained this court document, which gives an insight into silva's case. egg's neighbors say he disappeared sometime in june and that they would see strangers coming and going from his house. silva and another man were arrested in mid august after police responded to neighbors' calls that a crime sce
