>> sandra endo reporting for us.well in kill devil hills in north carolina which is the outer banks. evacuations there. we've seen pretty dramatic pictures of flooding. 12 foot waves, as well. >> soledad, good morning. a few minutes ago we heard rob talk about the southwest side. the strong winds from the southwest side of this storm. well you know, for the last three days that's what we've been experiencing. started with the northwest side of the storm, now dealing with the southwest side of the storm. still getting the strong wind gusts. still getting rain and showers from time to time. what it's caused out here, flooding. in okracoke island, inundated from the storm surge. they're worried about storm surge on the atlantic side. 4 to 6 feet of storm surge. the beach is gone. also on the sound side, they're keeping an eye on the possibility of flooding, as the winds shift. those winds are pushing water in different places, and could cause up to three to five feet of flooding. also soledad, want to talk about this th

our meteorologist is live, sandra. the wind is picking up. give us an idea what's happening there. >> yes, fredricka, they're certainly bracing for sandy. the waves are at low tide, but in about five hours, it will be high tide, and people will be feeling more the effect of hurricane sandy as it approaches. this area, and that's why local officials are concerned. they're concerned about the combination between this storm and high tide. that's going to create a huge storm surge and that's why they've asked all residents in the downtown area to evacuate, all non-residents to get out of town as well. there is also a voluntary evacuation order for low-lying areas. we've seen people all day long boarding up, people in businesses gearing up for this storm, and state troopers have been going around knocking on doors, asking residents to leave or be prepared for this storm. listen to what the mayor had to say. >> i think the storm is only going to intensify as you get past 6:00 p.m. tonight to 8:00 p.m. this evening with the next high tide cycle. you

sandra. david? david: big story is apple.res were beginning to turn around when the mid did i and ipad mini and its price of $329 were revealed. what is it about the mini that investors are worried about? joining me, matthew hoffman, managing director of cowan and company. matthew, is it price? i notice when the price came out, maybe it was just coincidence but that is when the stocks seemed to go further south? >> right. for months we heard the price would be $299. so the 329 was maybe a little higher than the street was looking for and there's a little bit of confusion about maybe whether it will be able to beat the google nexus and lower priced kindle fire tablets that are out there. i think once the product gets out there in the market, proves it has face time, it has the ability, it is lighter, it has got great battery life, there are a lot of good features on the product. once it gets out there maybe some investor concerns will ease a little bit. david: you mentioned amazon. amazon is very happy. if you look at the two

sandra smith at the cme, sandra? >> hey, neil, i'm actually in the s&p 500 futures pit.argest by size on the trading floor and this has been closed for physical pit trading, the past two trading sessions and we just opened here at the same time as the new york stock exchange market in chicago and we had an 8:30 central time, 9:30 a.m. eastern time open, been open about seven minutes and really conflicting news that i'm getting from traders on the open here. right on the open, i was getting board there was sizable sell orders coming in, but then, things sort of turned around and we saw big action in the pit behind me and all of a sudden we hit session highs which i see. it's up 57 points and traders are saying after being closed for two straight days they're wary of the level of volume they're going to see today. it's been taken a while and they're worried about the customers in new york not taking calls or putting in calls to customers in new york and concerns, things like volume and volatility picking up and already as we're only just eight minutes, into this section he
