sanjay gupta, it's excellent reporting getting back there from the refugee camps. was actually a mosque, right? that they were performing surgeries inside. everything is kind of a makeshift situation there. they do with what they can. >> absolutely. and they were allowed essentially to do that because it's in a particular area of lebanon that is quite sympathetic to what is known as the free syrian army, the fsa. that's why that could happen. they still use a certain floor of that as a mosque but the upstairs floors were all patient floors. that particular floor were all rebel fighters. they acknowledged them as such and they were being treated there. >> you know, the articles urge people to check out cnn.com some of the stuff you've written the printed word which is so moving. i think one of the headlines was nothing makes sense in the camps. it seems extraordinary in place like lebanon these people are going through stuff tribulations once they've escaped a war. explain. >> nothing makes sense in the very, very obvious way and then in a more nuanced way. nothing

sanjay gupta joins me live from beirut. sanjay, good to see you. the injuries you saw today seem quite severe, amputations, spinal cord injuries. do the rebels you spoke to today believe there will be an air strike by the u.s., are they prepared for the influx of wounded? >> i think they believe that there will be an air strike. certainly that seems to be the prevailing sort of idea among the doctors, among the medical staff over there, and they're trying to do the best they can to try and prepare for that, jake, but while they believe the air strike's going to come, they still don't have everything that they need to even possibly take care of the patients right now. so they talk about these emergency plans which are so contingent on getting more supplies. but jake, as you just saw, this is a particularly dangerous part, border area between syria and lebanon, so it is hard for them to get supplies and they themselves, these doctors and medical staff, are worried that they could become targets as well in all this. so it's a very sort of unstable sit

sanjay gupta.the way, you're in key west, spoke with her last night. what do you make of the physical feat and challenges she's faced and finally hitting it this time? >> you know, the physical challenges are just remarkable. i mean, anyone can see that. at 64 years old, she swam nearly 55 hours. one doctor put it to me, essentially she's in a race against her own body, because she has to take in enough hydration, nutrition, just enough to complete the swim, so she's almost in a way digesting her own body to get this done. you sort of hit on this and see it when speaking to her, this is about a dream 35 years in the making. we all have dreams maybe we've let go at some point in our lives, maybe we didn't realize we let go, then you meet someone like diana nyad and all these long lost dreams are reinvigorated and maybe it inspires people to do things they thought no longerer were a possibility for them. 64 years old, my mom was calling me yesterday, my kids were calling me, she's inspiring to all ge

sanjay gupta, visited a mosque in lebanon that's been converted now into a clinic to treat these woundedefugees. sanjay? >> reporter: we're in mecca valley, literally walking distance from the border between lebanon and syria. and we've been to some of the reffy camps trying to figure out how people are being cared for and what they're seeing here specifically. we're in sort of this secretive clinic. this makeshift clinic. was actually a mosque. i want to show you something here. victims of gunshot wounds or explosions. they are getting their care now here in this makeshift clinic. the entire staff including the doctors, the nurses, all part of that coalition from the free syria army as well. operating in this particular area, again, just minutes away from the border. now, the concern is for so many people here, especially the medical staff, what to do if the numbers grow. if they have dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of more people. they don't have enough resources. they don't have enough room. not enough supplies to be able to take care of everyone. they're trying to come up with em
