it's the reason why the santa clara valley probably will not get close to those rain totals obviously the mountains the next 24 hours. all the red and purple, another 2 to 4 inches of rain expected from late tonight into tomorrow morning. and you can see it on the future cast. the peak rain does come through right around 3:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. out of the north bay and san francisco. you see the line right there, 7:00 a.m. by late morning, the showers start to move out of the central bay. as we move forward into the afternoon, you begin to get the clearing skies and then as we head towards new year's eve night plans, flood watches drop at 10:00. sunday does look dry. we've had these rapid succession storms going across pacific. it's known as the zonal pacific jet stream. it's a very intense jet stream. we're in this pattern where we get these storms moving in every two to three days and they get access to the atmospheric river which pumps up the rain totals. we're get another system on monday. may not bring as much rain, but stay tuned, i think you can clearly see why we're keeping a c

the poorest air quality will be found in the north bay and santa clara valley. during the winter, you want to ban burning wood during the four hours. we will watch of the east bay closely. we could get some thick fog settling into the valley. dublin, san ramon, livermore, keep your eyes on that. live doppler seven, along with satellite, high-pressure is in control, creating poor air quality. that fog will linger for the morning. that white country on the future weather is the fog through 6:00 a.m., lingering through 9:00 a.m. probably close to lunchtime we see it down and moved out of the valleys. that will slow the warming process today. temperatures in the 50's. the three-day forecast will show you that we will start to see warmer weather move in just in time for winter beginning. coming up, it gets even warmer and we will talk temperatures in a few minutes. jobina: we are going to start here with the live look at the san mateo bridge. fog advisory for san mateo county. going to the westbound 92 to 80. we also have fog advisories for the altamont pass and marti

some heavy rain that will move over the santa cruz mountains eventually into the santa clara valley. i know it's been quieter than the rest of the bay area down towards san jose. but you still have your heaviest of rainfall ahead of you. santa cruz mountains are likely to see around 2 inches of rainfall today. the rest of us closer to an inch of it. now, san mateo, the san mateo bridge is in the midst of some moderate shower activity right now. that's that big yellow area still coming down. nice and light for san francisco as well as across the golden gate bridge, pockets of heavier rainfall up in the oakland hills highway. 24 heading over to walnut creek in lafayette. in the midst of some stuff as well, starting to calm down a little bit in the north bay. you're just cold up there now because that cold front has passed through the cold air behind it. your feeling the effect of it. but yes, still in the midst of some pretty widespread moderate and even heavier pockets of rain right there in the core of the bay. they'll continue to push southeastward through the rest of the morning. e

santa clara. for those in the tri-valley, we have mid 60s and upper 60s.w i say warm sparingly, but on average, this is 10 degrees where we should be this time of the year. >>> 10 degrees? i did not realize that. that will be nice on christmas. we are looking at the roadways. i wish i had better news, the drive is not great at the bay bridge due to an earlier crash on the upper deck near treasure island. we are in the holiday traffic pattern. it should be lighter than this. we have seen easy travel conditions of the last few days, but not today. plan ahead if you are making the drive into san francisco. we are keeping track of travel times. it is getting better. that does indicate that they have likely cleared the crash near treasure island. it is 19 minutes from the maze over to 101. 192 looks clear as an ere nate. you can also are bart delays as well. i will zoom in on san francisco as well. we are dealing with a road closure. that is blocked due to a fire on castro street between elizabeth and 24th street. if you commute here, avoid it if you can. the f

substantial rain than that is going to try to climb over the santa cruz mountains and into the santa clara valley. some of it will survive what we are talking about limited rainfall totals the further south you go. >> picking up on the fact that the rain has stopped in santa rosa, nothing more there. about a quarter inch of rain on top of what we have already received but not enough to cause flooding problems but the next round of rain will be heavier. it holds off until late tomorrow night. passing shower r far northern portions of the north bay during friday evening, but, the heavy rain moves in through the northern half of the bay area as the sun is coming up on saturday. this first wave of heavy rain continues into early saturday afternoon. a brief break in the action, middle late afternoon and more rain saturday evening and saturday night. heavy rain coming at us in waves. each one heavy enough to result in some localized flooding, standing water at intersections on the sides of roads, some creeks might be getting higher on the banks but there are going to be gaps in between. by sunday, we w

this would be down on that southern edge, as you get into the santa clara valley, and you can see the intersection here of 280, 87. right as you get into the heart of downtown. if you go south from there, take 101 south, you're going to notice a little more rain on here. if you're taking that commute, let's say you're going up from morgan hill, or gilray, plan on more rain as you get into town. we also have noticeable rain here for the east bay. that's also going to be quite rainy. if we take a look at how this plays out over the next day and a half. it's like this. on again, off again, scattered showers. more time when you're not getting rained on, than when you are. this goes all the way through tomorrow morning's commute. we'll be dealing with this again tomorrow. by the afternoon, it's done. then we will get a break through wednesday until the next system gets here. there's another chance for rain that shows up in the seven-day forecast. for late thursday, into friday. likely friday morning's commute we'll be doing this as well. it's kind of nice to see that we've got an active we

a little moisture trying to sneak up into the santa clara valley tomorrow afternoon. clear skies taking over tomorrow night. it will be a cold start wednesday morning, but lots of sunshine during the day on wednesday. the next round of rain will be way off the to the northwest. moving closer to us thursday night. we're talking about anywhere from barely more than a trace to about a quarter inch. a few locations, especially higher in elevation could pick up more than half an inch of additional rainfall. we will take every drop we can get, especially with moran the forecast. better chances round up thursday and friday. friday night into saturday and lingering into sunday. at this point, it does not look like saturday will be the wetter half of the weekend, but it is in the forecast. up toward the high sierra, tonight it will be complicated. there is plenty of snow on the ground and they will pick up two to four inches. when the rain pat , rain pattern picks up, they will see an additional two to three feet of snow. it will make it extremely challenging to make it up the
