>>> the flash flood watch in santa rosa is causing concern for areas burned in october wildfires. all this rain could easily wash away hillsides. kpix5's juliette goodrich is live in santa rosa in the fountain grove neighborhood. >> reporter: veronica, yes, we are in one of the burn zones tonight. it's been raining steadily all day coming down this evening in the santa rosa area and the concern as paul was mentioning is that unstable ground we've been walking around in all day today. you can see our fogged up lens from all the rain today, but that unstable ground could lead to mudslides. of santa rosa has o alert residents and ta it was three months ago when fire swept through ward page's santa rosa home, a home of 17 years. now this first big rainstorm and mother nature's force delivers yet another dark cloud. today he was covering valuables with tarps to preserve what he has. >> it was just burning constantly. >> reporter: this santa rosa couple's home was spared in the fire, but now they have a new worry.

concord 54, santa rosa, 54, and oakland 57. lows tonight stay mild, tropical air. fremont 54, santa rosa, 53, pacifica, 53. how can we go 55 days with less than one inch of rain? and then in one day we triple that number. it is just so strange. well, we were not tapping into the tropics. now we have both in one day. a strong storm coming out of the gulf of alaska, which will cause major flooding problems. they will have twice the amount of rain. we are tapping into the tropical moisture, which has been pouring in. since the storm has been moving north to south, that focus of the heaviest rainfall has been sitting over the bay area for about one half of one day. if it was just moving west and east, that would be moving out. we do see the clearing line begin to move up to san francisco by 2:00 in the morning. only some scattered showers for the morning rush tomorrow. scattered showers lasting in the south bay until 3:00. clearing skies by tomorrow evening. it'll be much drier. steady rain is wrapping up with scattered showers continuing into the afternoon. it's not c

accused of starting a fire in santa rosa. started saturday afternoon at the roseland self storage on roseland avenue. crews quickly put out the fire. police arrested eric chait. they say he was smoking a cigarette while using butane to extract hash oil from marijuana . the cigarette started the fire. officials say the fire caused about 300-thousand dollars in damage. get ready in the north as the rain is coming for santa rosa and the santa cruz mountains. i have seen about .37 in ben lohman which is nothing for them. right now it is mostly about marin county into the peninsula. 40s and 50s and it looks to be a day of clouds and rain. when this comes tonight there could be very heavy rain causing some hydroplaning issues. 50s and 60s for temperatures. i know we have a lot going on on the roads. >>> we have a lot of flooding unfortunately on the roads making it tough. let's start with highway 24 westbound. we had an earlier crash on the oakland side and those crashes are now gone but the traffic is very slow. it is solid from walnut creek and you can see for yourself look at the slow traffic on 680 and 24 headed out to oakland or into san ramon. 680 from concorde into alamo is also slow. one hour between the carquinez bridge and the macarthur maze. when you get here it is another half hour to get to the bridge. we went back to normal even a little bit more than normal a little slower than normal in oakland in front of oracle arena. 880 t

santa rosa, 32. in the city, a beautiful start. there is rain on the way. not that we could not use him. we will get it tonight. mostly cloudy skies by this afternoon. high clouds in advance of this cold front will give us the first hint of what is on the way. if you look at the kpix5 high definition doppler, you can see that already, rain is lighting up. it will take a while to get here. it is about 400 miles offshore. rain will spread south later in the day today. and by that i really mean tonight. most of the bay area will get wet overnight tonight. convenient rain in that respect. when it rains, it will port in marin and sonoma county. here is 9:00 p.m. around santa rosa. some pretty good cells on the way. so there is a sunny start. but it will get wet late in the day. it will take until tomorrow morning at 5:00 a.m. monday for it to reach the south bay. by then, not much will be left. by tuesday, we begin to clear out before the next system begins to show itself on wednesday. that is when the next system is coming in. that is later in the day wednesday
