sarah: no updates on time or location. dave. reporter: thanks, sarah. the government said this week we reached a point where the government has added $1 trillion to the debt since president trump took office. obviously that's not the direction he promised to go in the campaign. and he really doesn't talk about deficits much anymore. has he given up on cutting deficits? is he still concerned about it? what can he do about it? sarah: yes, he's concerned. that's why the budget he put forward tried to address some of those concerns. we're continuing to look for ways we can cut government. i think we've done that in a number of ways through the deregulation process, cutting out of a lot of inefficiencies in government and we'll continue to do that and continue to push for policies that will do that. reporter: thanks a lot, sarah. it's been a week the president said he would impose stiff sanctions on imported steel and imported aluminum. today the e.u. published a list of american products that would be targeted in retaliation for the tariff the president int

sarah: russia has to make that determination. i think you can see from the actions that we have taken up until this point, we will be tough on russia until they decide to change their behavior. i have to keep moving. [indiscernible] reporter: does the president feel the justice department should move to fire mccabe? sarah: that is up attorney general sessions and well documented that he has had troubling behavior and a bad actor and should have some call for concerns. but that should be a concern that d.o.j. reporter: he will not receive his full pension. sarah: the department of justice has to make. reporter: just to get some specific clarity, the question was asked about a red line if the finance questions went beyond anything relating to russia, does the president draw a distinction between a red line on family financens relating to russia as it pertains to this case? sarah: the president believes there was no collusion between the trump cam bain and russia and for questions specific to the trump organization, i would refer yo

reporter: thanks a lot, sarah. it seems many republicans, including the house speaker, re caught offguard about the -- by the president's decision about the terrorist. should they have [inaudible] sarah: they should have been well aware of -- the president has been talking about this for quite sometime. if they were caught offguard they simply haven't been listening what he's been saying and talking about and how he's promised to make good trade deals and make free, fair and reciprocal trade in this country. reporter: is it open to discussing this particular issue that he's advised with the house speaker try to find some sort of compromise on this? sarah: i am not going to get ahead of anything beyond where we are right now, but, again, the president's going to do what he feels is necessary to protect american workers. reporter: thank you. you had mentioned last week that the white house was going to come out with a proposal on guns or to let congress know what they wanted to be done on guns. where is that proposal

sarah: it briefly came up. as you know we have had a number of public statements on our position there. that has not changed. reporter: yesterday, the canadian prime minister noticed talkace of that accelerating. is the president that and there's yesterday that getting a deal? sarah: the president as always interested to get a good deal and dizzy after to get a good deal. at the convent 20 conversation would be to make sure that was a good deal for americans and american workers. entire political process, is anything possible for it to be that quick, within six weeks? sarah: i do not have any specific announcements at this time. we will continue to have those conversations led by ambassador lighthizer and working with the president. reporter: the president frequently speaks about the need to improve the nation's crumbling infrastructure. can you explain his opposition to the eight way project, the railway tunnel between new jersey and new york, and is key to 20% of the nation's gross national product? sarah: th

sarah: he has concerns about the process. nothing makes the problems cleaner than what was outlined in both the republican and democrat memos. the fbi used political campaign material to get a warrant to spy on american citizens. they failed to disclose to the judge that the dossier was funded by the clinton campaign and the dnc, even as it was used to spy on people close to the trump campaign. that alone shows us that the process needs to be looked at closely and reformed to make sure we're doing everything we can to protect the privacy of american citizens. >> in regards to between, can you elaborate on the relationship between the president and the two -- attorney general? sarah: the president made his frustrations very clear. i don't have anything else to add. >> what was the president's reaction of what to the mayor of oakland, california when she tipped off residence there was an imminent immigration coming? is digested from a looking into a? sarah: i think it is outrageous a mayor would circumvent authorities and put t
