. >> schieffer: you were in spanish class. >> yes. we just finished lunch and walked back in to our spanish class and not settled in to the class yet and young girl came running in saying the president's been shot. and of course the entire class was in the state of deer in headlights and trauma. our teacher said, girls, girls, we know nothing about the truth of these rumors until we dou there will be spanish. you can imagine no one of course was listening to those instructions. but the instructions of the heart were overwhelming. >> schieffer: what happened after you got this first word? >> well, shortly afterwards while there was a twitter in the room, bells of the national cathedral began to ring and ring and ring. and 400 girls without saying a word rose from their chairs and walked single file down in to the gymnasium which also served as our chapel. without any instruction, these 400 women, young women bent to their knees listened that the president indeed had been shot, his condition was considered very troubling. governor conne

you can imagine -- >> schieffer: just buy it? >> they already paid for it under that theory the question is how would you get it delivered. this is something that u.s. intelligence watches like a hawk as you can imagine. and various moments when saudis want to turn up the heat they keep saying, lookf we think iran is too close we're not going to let be there a shia bomb we'll make sure that there is a sunni alternative. >> john, the president has the lowest ratings of his presidency, his signature program now opposed by 61% of the people. does this have any impact on any of that? i consider the politics of this the least significant part when we're talking about prevent somebody from getting a nuclear weapon. politics does play a role. >> well, kennedy used to say politics can get politically but in foreign policy can kill you. more important on foreign policy. to see ken mccarthy say he would hope the politics didn't get involved. senator from texas on the republican side said his first reaction on twitter was, it's amazing what

. >> schieffer: you think they should just shut the whole thing down and start over is that what is going to have to be done? >> i think they ought to be able to try and fix the systems. i mean frankly they "have done it before it started, they should have gotten it right in place. and there are too many players so they really ought to try to make sure that they're going to be able to fix this system by the end of november. i hope they can. but if they can't they ought to be honest about what they're confronting. and i think ultimately that if they can fix it they can put this back on the right track. if they can't fix it then i think the president may very well have to accept some changes in order to make sure that we can continue to implement it. medicare went through this, the shakedown. medicaid went through the shake down these are complicated programs. but you've got to be able to adjust. you've got to be able to see what you have to do in order to make them work better and you ought to be open to that this if in fact that's required. >> schieffer: the president has apologized for t
