schiff: we're looking at that now.e're looking at what we thought were inviolate norms that turns out can be violated with impugntism it's difficult, i think, to legislate certain ethical behaviors. much as it would be desirable to do so if we could. i don't know what the regulations would look like, for example, that would prevent someone from pursuing a business opportunity in a foreign hostile power. mr. costa: you could make it illegal. if you're a presidential candidate do you believe it should be legal to have a business dealing with a foreign power or foreign company? mr. schiff: well, this is the question we're going to have to analyze. is this something that you can prohibit via criminal law? what would that look like? or is this a situation where -- in the past we would fully expect, number one, that the presidential candidates would be truthful about their interactions. mr. costa: we don't have that expectation as reporters. mr. schiff: we don't have that expectation anymore as americans. mr. costa: do you h

rep schiff: good afternoon. i spent much of this morning as indeed many did around the country reviewing the mueller report or those sections that were not redacted. i would like to share with you some early observations from what i have been able to read so far. reported sometime ago as the intelligence community disclosed as well, there was an extensive campaign by the russians who interfered in our elections in 2016. that interference took many forms. most significantly, it took the form of an effort through social media to divide the country and push out favorite narratives to assist the trump campaign on social media through massive efforts led by the internet research agency out of st. petersburg. it also embarked on an effort to hack and dump emails from the democratic campaign of hillary johnon, campaign manager podesta, and other efforts through the hacking and dumping operation to influence the outcome of the election. these efforts were designed to help donald trump and hurt hillary clinton. there wer

schiff: we are. i think the evidence is so weighty that the justice department needs to consider this. his testimony, which i can discuss because it is public record now, was that his meeting in the say shalz with this russian banker was purely by chance. he just happened to be there and his hosts suggested, he just happened to go there for about a day and have a chance meeting with this russian banker. well, we know from the mueller report now that that was no a -- not a chance meeting. that he had preparatory materials about him before he left. that he had discussions about it with mr. bannon before he left. we know there were communications after he returned. he was also asked whether he was attempting to establish a back channel for the trump transition or campaign, which he also denied and it's clear from the mueller report that that was false and misleading. so in very material ways, i think the evidence strongly suggests that he willingly misled our committee and the justice department needs t

now their next move is to take down barr, so this morning, this morning, adam schiff said this. the attorney general chose to mislead the country, with his own spin, in handling the mueller report. he says i think that history will reflect that bill barr let the country down when it needed an attorney general of substance from adam schiff. i think the wall street journal got it right with this op-ed this weekend called "targeting bill barr" and the editorial board writes this. the larger democratic concern is that mr. barr is serious about looking into the origins of the fbi surveillance of the trump campaign in 2016. that could mean turning over such rocks as the fbi clinton media collaboration, and this is the bottom line, this collaboration over the discredit ed steele dossier or whether officials mislead the foreign intelligence surveillance court in seeking a warrant to eavesdrop on trump advisor carter page. your reaction? >> well, adam schiff has for the last few weeks been demanding that bill barr violate the law, so i'm not surprised to hear him continue down that path
