we have latest coverage with scott brown, chief economist for raymond james research, klaus bell, from raymond james and david, go to you first. what does this number mean? where do we go from here? >> it is a great number. we get a number like this, a big revision upward to 5%. the dark cloud all year has really been been the bond market. 10-year yields hovering 2%. we dipped below two a couple times. that makes investors a little concerned. the problem is not here but in europe. high yield keeps anchor on our yield. there were dark clouds in this. durable goods still a problem. i have some questions about aircraft manufacturers. i think we'll hear more from some of the other guests on that. rich: talk about that in terms of what we're seeing on exports. dollar is weakening. strength in europe. klaus, what does it mean on this one? what does it mean about exports? do we have to worry on that front? >> i would be concerned of a little bit of a headwind in some areas of the world. asia slowing down a little bit. i think that will affect exports but i still think that consumer demand gro

joining us now, scott brown, chief economist at raymond james great to have you here.k this is fascinating potential possibilities for what could happen to the economy, this dividend boost. is that what we're seeing in the retail sales numbers today? >> it was a little bit there in the numbers we got for december. i think we're probably going to see a much bigger effect into december and early part of 2015. generally when you look at impact of lower gasoline prices for consumers, depend how low they go and how long they stay low and shows up with a lag. i like to use the 13-week average. it may be some time before we see full effect but at least a partial effect in november. gerri: yeah, it was a little pop, certainly surprised wall street. you saw what happened to stocks. by some estimates, for every penny gas prices fall, consumers save a billion dollars that can go into the economy. and yet, to some extent the polling certainly of americans, there is disconnect here belies all that. what we see there is a certain lack of confidence among americans. 64% saying that t

when scott brown won that seat in massachusetts which was ted kennedy's seat, that should have sent shock waves too all the democrats on capitol hill and said we shouldn't pass this. there is huge damage done across the country to americans trying to live under this healthcare law. their premiums have gown, their copays have gone up, their deductibles have gone up, they can't keep their doctor and hospital. i talked too someone this morning, they called 10 different appointments trying to get an appointment with a doctor who is supposed to be on the plan and can't gets an appointment. the new story from the inspector general of health and human services. half of the of the doctor supposedly available for medicaid patient aren't taking new patients. this new law has turned out to be terrible for people seeking healthcare. bill: gruber is on the hotline. his name is on the marquee. >> i think it does expose the things we were talking about since this healthcare law was debated on the floor of the united states senate. the president focused so much on the word coverage and ignored the word c

when they passed the bill, christmas eve 2009, they had 60 votes and senator scott brown was electedin massachusetts and only had 59 so they basically used reconciliation bill as a way to do a conference report so there are a lot of things in the reconciliation bill that were not in the main law and could not be in the reconciliation bill because reconciliation must be budget related so i don't think even if they wanted to, they could cause a lot of problems for the law but they couldn't repeal the law. the other thing is, even if they can get it through the house and the senate, the president said this week that he would veto anything that would undo the house law so i think the republicans have some items that they might want to tinker around with but using reconciliation to do sort of full-scale assault seems unlikely. host: incoming chairman of the budget committee, tom price republican of georgia, was our guest recently and we asked him about the press process and what he planned for it. you can watch the whole thing on our website, c-span.org saying he wants the conference to d

we go to josh brown for the breakdown of it. >> thanks, scott. >> you're welcome, josh.hat have you got? >> i think it's really interesting everybody talks about china, china, china. nobody's talking about it any more. this year they're up triple. i think a lot of it has to do with various reforms that the regime in beijing have rolled out this year, most notably the connection between hong kong and shanghai. you saw an immediate shrinking of the discount between mainland and chinese stocks and stocks in hong kong that foreign investors can own and are much more widely traded. i think there's a lot of room for this to continue. you're seeing shanghai back at highs not seen since 2011 but significantly below. it's still underowned. if this were to be a market in and of itself, it would be something like 10% of the world's global stock market capitalization. so i think this is something that can continue for a while. we talked about energy at the top of the show. it's actually very beneficial to chinese companies, chinese consumers to have gas and oil prices too. >> i agre
