. >> scott mcgrew watching the numbers on wall street for us. >> there's a lot to worry about what's happening here at home. we're going to bring you the open bell live. we'll keep you updated on the stock market numbers let's talk about for a minute what this means beyond stocks. let me say right off the top, we're speculating. we're speculating based on the very words mr. trump has said in the past, his promises during the campaign, the best predictor of the future is past behavior. mr. trump has promised a number of things like firing janet yellen. that's not exactly how that happens. but he can decline to renew her term in 2018. the fed has an interest rate meeting next month. other promises and things that may be ahead, mr. trump talked about military action in the middle east. that could affect the stock market, we'll be watching that today. certainly would affect oil prices as well. interest rates, mr. trump has in the past talked about not paying back american debt. that would send interest rates very, very, very high indeed. he's talked about increasing tariffs and taxes on

. >> scott mcgrew, volatility looks like it's going to be the standard moving forward. >> of course, we don't know what to think or what to expect because we've never quite done this. we will not for quite some time. remember, not only has donald trump said he would not approve of trade deals like the tpp, said he would tear off nafta, the republican house and senate may allow him to do it. that would end free trade with canada and mexico. world markets off slightly this morning. part of it is simply timing. here at home dow futures down as much as 800 points. nasdaq down 110, s&p 500 koun. if all hell breaks loose today or the next few days on the market, the stock markets will take a pause, a rest, if and when the s&p falls 7%, when the index hits 1989. again we'll see it at 13% and again at 20% if that were to happen. again, we don't know. i do want to broaden this out for when i talk to you next about more than just the stock market. that is people's houses and mortgage rates. oil prices, retirement, h-1b visas and the people we work with in silicon valley, these are sipgss where

. >> scott mcgrew. president obama wanted this badly but he's been stopped by the courts. >> yes. good morning. the court in texas that put a stop to this has an issue on how the president accomplished it. doing it through presidential order instead of through congress. the judge agreed with 21 states that had filed suit to stop this move. california didn't sue, but we are affected. the rules will not take effect here either. the rule, created by the labor department, would have increased maximum pay you get in order to make you eligible for overtime. right now americans pay $23,660 or less are eligible for overtime pay. the new rules would have increased that to 47,000 and change. california has its own overtime rule. if you make less than $41,600. you're generally eligible for overtime. this means this ruling today hits other americans harder than it does californians. there are fewer californians involved in this. also, it doesn't apply to californians who are ex pemeemp based on their jobs like carnival workers. actors, soft w.a.r. engineers. airline employees. >>> jack dorsey

let's check in with scott mcgrew. what's the latest? >> the fangs are getting hit hard. facebook, amazon, netflix, google. fitbit is all over the place. the stock jumped on word that some company wanted to buy the san francisco-based company fit knit. but it's not clear if there are actual buyers. shares in gopro continue to fall, down a bit today after losing big wednesday. the company recalled its new drone because of its tendency to lose power and fall out of the sky. gopro shares were already down more than 50% for the year. shares in tesla are down again. tesla under pressure, after the election. because president-elect trump has said he doesn't support government tax incentives for green energy. so that would really eventually remove this very nice incentive when you order one of those new teslas. >>> you remember last week -- i think it was last week -- we were talking about starbucks new green cups. people were upset once again saying they weren't christmassy enough. i pointed out those aren't the holiday cups. here are the holiday cups. they'll be rolled out tod

as we talk about this issue, scott mcgrew, you've been communicating with the hacker. the first question is how do you know he's the hacker. >> an excellent question. i've been communicating with theperson who owns the account to demand the ransom. it's pretty safe to assume he's one in the same. no ran some has been paid. we know that for two reasons. first of all, the person controlling the e-mail account has been asking for the ransom that says he hasn't been paid. he goes by andy. he tells me no contact officially. i think they don't want to deal. but someone must be responsible for people's safety in a company like that. i don't think he's a native english speaker, by the way, so we will try to force them by hacking again and again to make people safe. this is the way he writes. i just copy and paste. we know also because this is the bit coin account he provided for the ransom payment. it definitely does not have any big payment and no record of a transaction. muni says it eggs up and running, presumably has patched the whole. sayer knows is facing more lawsuits.
