let's bring in scott mcgrew who has some good news for both the home buyers and sellers. rarely are they both on the good end of the stick. >> reporter: that's a good point. and it is good news. good morning to you. mortgage rates are now at incredible historic lows. so it's obviously good news for home buyers because that brings your monthly payment down. it's also good news for home sellers because it really does bring more home buyers into the market. remember there's been a limited number of homes for sale. what they call inventory. so you've got a lot of buyers but still the same number of sellers. mortgage rates on a 30-year fix fell to the lowest rate ever recorded at 2.86%. now here in the bay area that's not the whole story because of course the kind of house that would be a mansion anywhere else, but still amazingly low. one of the key factors that has helped has been the stock market. the markets moved lower again today. it's had a rough september. but then again september's always rough on the stock market. mortgage rates moving lower because of that poor perf

scott mcgrew, he's now saying you should go check on your vote, right? >> reporter: right. he has clarified this. he is now saying that on the day of the election, you should go see if your vote was counted. a number of state election officials are asking you do not do that. do not crowd the ballot box polling places with your questions, and definitely do not vote twice. if you voted by mail and then try to vote in-person, that is voter fraud whether you succeed or not. let's start with what the president originally said. >> send in your ballots, send them in strong, whether it's sifted or unsolicited. the absentees are fine. we have to work to get them. it means something. you send them in but you go to vote. if they haven't counted it, you can vote. >> reporter: in a tweet the president clarified that statement, going to paraphrase a bit of it for you and not read all of it. in order for you to make sure your vote counts and is counted, sign and mail in your ballot as early as possible on election day or early voting go to your polling place and see whether or not your ma

scott mcgrew, i know a bunch of people here in the bay area just got rich. >> indeed they did. good morning. and, marcus, a bunch of rich people got even richer. you've got two companies who debuted on the market. snowflake, that's a software company in san mateo debuting on the nrog making its first appearance on the nasdaq. in the case of snowflake, it was a huge ipo. it's already up 100%. now worth more than $30 billion. one of the early funders of snowflake was a venture capital firm called iconic, which invests money for people like the zuckerbergs and twitter's jack dorsey and reed hoffman for linkedin. iconic owns about 12% of snowflake. that's worth about $4 billion in today's trading. that's not a bad haul. now, a lot of employees are also making money, executives obviously as well. and quite a few investors. i just jotted this down. snowflake ipo'd, came onto the market. it's up 95%. it's doubled just in the last few hours it has been on the market. and j. frog up -- is trading at 65. it's up about 50%. we're not done. a local company called sumologic will be making t

scott mcgrew joins us now. there are a number of legal questions here. >> reporter: yeah, there are indeed. good morning to you. certainly the u.s. government has the right to ban something that it says is harmful to american security. and that is the claim the white house is making that the chinese government may get access to the data collected by tiktok, by wechat as well. but the action goes further than that. it prohibits americans from using the computer code, presumably from just stopping from making a tiktok. it will require internet service providers to look for and stop internet traffic created by those apps starting in november. the commerce department is enforcing a deadline president trump set several weeks ago requiring tiktok's parent company to sell the technology to an american company. that too is being challenged in court. oracle in redwood shores said it would be willing to become alyse white house. the president will be briefing the press on a large fema grant to purto rico, billions of dol

let's turn to scott mcgrew. will the bidens meet with jacob blake's family? >> reporter: well, what we know so far is, chris, they're going to have a community meeting. and the campaign says they will make a, quote, local stop. we're not quite sure what to make of that. but it'll be become more clear as that trip is coming on thursday, tomorrow. the biden campaign also says it raised a record amount of money last month. the campaign saying it raised more than $360 million. we have not seen the financial records, but that's more than a million dollars a day, a third of a billion dollars in a month, the most any candidate of any party in american history has ever raised. yesterday the president toured the areas in kenosha that have been hit hard including a camera store that had stood for decades only to be burned down in the protests. he did not meet with the blake family. across town, the blake family held a black party with community organizers in a get out the vote effort. >> if the president of the united states, i mean, if he loves chaos, we are not going

there were more jobs added to the american economy than anybody expected, including scott mcgrew, who has the numbers. >> reporter: good morning to you. yeah. labor numbers just in time for labor day, right, kris? so american economy added 1.37 million jobs in august. that pushes the unemployment rate down to 8.4%. now that would be a big number under normal circumstances, that 8.4%. but in a pandemic that's a welcomed number indeed. we may be seeing a bit of goose from the number of census workers, government jobs account for a quarter of all the jobs that we're seeing. dow industrial's down about 315 points. this is on top of the big losses we saw yesterday. dow fell 800 points. the nasdaq downso this is very the economy. we do see obviously the slowdown, kris, still of course. but this is one of the very first numbers we've gotten after the end of some of those bonus payments, the $600 as well. and we seem to be limping along fairly well. doing much better than limping, crawling. >> it feels good to crawl. whoever thought that would be true, right? thank you, scott. and we'll see y

. >> tonight is the first debate, scott mcgrew. >>> that's right. and hosted by chris wallace. good morning to you. we'll talk more about chris in a moment, but he is an excellent choice as a moderator as conservatives will have a tough time making that argument which they've made in the past that the moderator is somehow favoring the democratic candidate. most pundits say this is joe biden's debate to lose. he's known for may believe verbal gaffes. if he can keep away from those and keep his emotions in check he should be on solid ground. biden is pulling well ahead of the president in several key states and trump setting a trap for himself talking up biden's weaknesses ahead of the debate. so if biden can do better t the president is predicting, you may see some people take that as a win. now obviously the president is also known for verbal gaffes and inaccurate statements. they'll be facing a tough moderator in chris wallace. we expect questions about coronavirus and the supreme court. wallace, as you know, has questioned trump in the past leaving some viral moments. >> let'
