we'll start with scott wiener our state senator. >> good morning. that was all so beautiful and i fond myself thinking how much i had experienced a lot of the same things, like as with raphael. i too had been told now by crispin. scott i support you and love you but can't be with you on this. i always came away feeling good in the conversation. i have known crispin a long time. i lived block and a half away from crispin just neighbors forever, so not just elected official but constituent but neighbor to neighbor and he was someone who in politics and neighborhood politics, because as harsh as politics are and neighborhood politics are harshing a lot of time, you realize quickly who the rocks are. people rock solid, have their head screwed straight and help guide the community to a good decision and crispin was absolutely one of those people. i know his passing is a loss to so many people. it is a huge huge loss to the castro community and crispin we love you and i know you are smiling down on us. i did adjourn the california state senate in crispin'

[applause] >> thank you very much and apology for being a little behind. crazy day. so, i am so thrilled to be here today and budget this year we were able to in the state budget this year, we were able to deliver $5 million for this project to make sure that the hub was completed. [applause] when doug shoemaker my college classmate by the way, when we called me early in the year to say we are short these funds and can you help us out, to me it was a no-brainer. this project everything about it, the community center and everything about this housing is so incredibly important and inspirational for san francisco. this is a community that has been neglected by our city and by our state for so many years and as supervisor safai just discussed in graphic and important detail, how we allowed people to live and housing that wasn't supposed to last that long. in san francisco in this wealthy city allowing people to live in that substandard housing. feeling of abandonment by the city. we are

[applause] >> thank you rudey. first of all, i just want to from the bottom of my heart thank united playas for everything this amazing organization does. p getting gun off the street and helping people reintegrate after spending time in prisons and making sure our young people have a path to a great life and taking those young people under this organization wings early to help them stay safe and healthy. this is a life saving organization so i really really want to thank for everything it does. my heart is so broken for all the people who are dead because of gun violence and their families and their communities that are impacted and changed and harmed forever. we saw just recently, which is so personal for me, what happened in colorado springs and club q. someone came in with an assault weapon and massacreed 5 people and injured another two dozen and thankfully a very brave veteran and very brave transgender woman took him down and ended that and saved a lot of lives. but they shouldn't have had to do that and why

[cheers and applause] and like many muni riders, i sometimes describe muni as my friend-enemy. it's my friend who gets me to where i'm going and we have the moments where we're ripping our hair out because it's not working as well and i am so optimistic about what's happening with muni. when we look at van ness, vrt and getting on the 49 and quickly and immediately get all the way up van ness or being able to hop on the 14 mission and because of those red lanes, quickly get down mission street. and now this morning, i hopped on a castro street, my muni station, and took it down to pal and had a really short walk to the central subway to this station

senator scott wiener says that this water spring video epitomizes the city's failures. >> we are creating a tinderbox, because people are incredibly frustrated with how things are playing out on our streets. we have not done enough to expand shelter and mental health. i know the mayor is working very, very hard to do that. but we have to do more and we have to do it faster. >> we have reached out to the mayor's office and have not heard back. >> know obviously what he did is clearly wrong. there will be possible charges and all that. but is this the wake-up call that the city needed? >> you wonder, but we have seen several things like this. you can see similar scenes of filth and sadness and suffering on the streets of the entire tenderloin, for example. these things have gone viral. fox news picks up on them and it goes around the world, but nothing has really changed yet. so i guess we will have to see. >> well, the good thing is that she is getting treatment. that is what she needed all along. thank you. we appreciate it. >>> the naacp is thinking alameda county board of supervisors af

. >> state senator scott wiener has been pushing for state wide support for conservatorship. >> we are w state level to try to make it easier to conserve people who clearly need to be conserved and have other people, have the county make decisions for them for a period of time so they can get healthy and stabilized and back on their feet and make decisions for themselves. >> about one third of homeless people have mental health or addiction problems. >> not everyone needs conservatorship. weiner says we need health beds and infrastructure. >> we need to make it less hard nsrsp. s out saving their lives. dan: homelessness of san francisco is an ongoing issue. we want to give you some perspective on this. we used data from the latest homeless census. the most recent cou 7754 homeless people in san francisco. that number went down from the last count done pre-pandemic in 2019. it's the second highest total in over a decade. so who is homeless? most are unsheltered. about a third are chronically homeless, meaning they have been homeless for at least 12 months. 39% reported disabling condit
