i got my job in the senate congress committee in 2001. my mentor wada me for this job also african-american lawyer, very close to senator collins who openly hide me. he had difference of opinion between the staff director the one somebody that was, that was caucasian and hiring me. they got to a stalemate. he did my soon-to-be job and his job as chief counsel for a year and a half to get on the committee. you have to be purposeful. you have to occasionally have to sacrifice to be able to find that pool of people. that was my beginning, and likely once again i had a mentor who allowed me to make mistakes and learn and grow as as a s. he gave me opportunities to work with the senator. he gave me exposure picky gave me protection. and then my nine years on committee, i was fortunate enough to be seen as worthy to run a federal agency. and i did that for four years. my dream is always go back to the senate commerce committee of the staff director. maria cantwell who i work with back in 2007 on a number of issues, when she became ranking member
