it's unusual for sfo. it's one of the major airports of the united states and there's nobody here. >> and that certainly seems to be at least at this point the scene as well. it does seam anecdotedly a little slow here. you can see flights from new york, newark cancelled a lot of that going on here today. as of last night 50 flights already cancelled here at sfo. that number very well could grow and what that winds up doing is it winds up having a ripple effect on travel as those flights are supposed to be in various locations. so if your flight is coming in from say arkansas or from dallas, your flight might be effected by this because the plane isn't where it's supposed to be or perhaps the crew isn't where it's supposed to be. so the advice to anybody traveling today or if you are coming to the airport to pick someone else of course call that airline to see what the delay situation is like. >> christien while you're there any sense of the mood changes of the people of the airport at this hour? >> no, yo

here's a couple sprinkles over sfo. you can see increasing clouds and increasing showers. temperatures are mild as you head out the door this morning. in the 50s for san francisco and oakland in the 40s near liver mor. showers will begin up north today increasing throughout the morning so by lunchtime spreading south in the afternoon. scattered showers throughout the afternoon continuing overnight and blustery today. ahead of the front, winds 20-30 miles per hour. winter storm warning beginning this afternoon through monday at 4:00 p.m. looking at8-14 inches above 3,000 feet and a couple feet above 4,000 so lower snow levels. we'll talk more about your full forecast. >>> new details emerging about the ghost ship fire. we now know the victims of the massive warehouse fire died from smoke inhale united nations. it broke out during a dance party and ripped through the cluttered warehouse. the al me da county coroner's office performed the autopsies on the 36 concert goers after the fire but the information was not released until the san francisco chronicle called to check the

sfo with about three quarters of an inch of rain. many two inch amounts in marin county and santa cruz mountains. ben loma has had heavy rain as well. interstate 80 over to american canyon, vallejo and benecia looks to be one of the areas with the most rain right now. out to highway 4 but that looks like it has moved on at least most of it. it is heads out to rio vista and out to the valley. just a general area of rain from hercules to richmond, san ramon, oakland, san leandro and back over to southern marin county and over the bay bridge. it is leaving chinatown and along the embarcadero. you can see some of that and over to tiburon. marin county almost three inches of rain. the rain has been picking up in the santa cruz mountains south of san jose. i know there are issues around some of the -- trees and stuff, especially around ben loma, loma. what is rotating around this low. i think right there on the back side it will get enhanced on the on shore flow tonight and tomorrow. later today, especially i think sonoma county, mendocino

more than 70 flights are canceled at sfo because of the wet weather. officials tell us it's an even split of departures and arrivals. and mostly flights on the west coast. >> we've been looking at doppler radar and it's the first day of spring. and we're watching the rain get closer and closer and it has rifed. when you see the pockets of yellow and orange that's the moderate to heavy downpour. we see the heaviest concentration from cloverdale from guerneville to windsor. this is from mount vaca. and you can see that it's raining there as well. our temperatures are into the 50s and 60s. pretty uniform. but the other side of the coin, the winds have been increasing to 16 in san francisco. and notice the south, southeast wind at 18 in oakland. and that's ushering in the warmer air mass. this is the big picture. how the current system looks as it bangs up against the western part of the state. we'll have rain throughout our overnight ours and into wednesday. we'll have a break thursday and we'll talk about a more potent storm headed our way. >>> crews in

reporting live at sfo jean elle nbc bay area news. >> thank you, jean. we have some developing news for you no. tonight we're hearing for the first time from the family of the san jose plane crash victims. the cessna went down in a riverside neighborhood monday afternoon. the family is sharing this photograph with us. that's dana and her daughter stacey pierce. hajasi died. pierce had burns over 90% of her body. the family says we would like to thank the riverside community, the emergency spopders and bystanders who helped in rescuing our family members and did all they could to save them. thank you to everyone involved. meanwhile there was a somber scene in riverside where first service and vigil were held for the two women and pilot cessna her husband. the plane went down moments after take off. earlier today the families who live in those homes destroyed by the flames came back to try to gather some of their own belongings. nbc bay area's terry mcsweeney has more on the victims and what experts say could be the possible cause of that crash, terry. >>
