on grants and the sfusd public middle and high schools. i'm very concerned that the district is going to lose many families. i am coming to you as an elementary parent whose child in two rounds did not receive their feeder school so i'm very concerned about the feed r system. 65 of our kids are feeding, 12 are left out, 6 of those didn't put our feeder on their list, 6 of us had first choice and still our assignment is visitation valley. there's a safety issue with that. it has no nothing to do with the teachers, the wonderful administration at the school, but i it would take my child an hour and 17 minutes to get there. i know how the system is working. the feeder system is supposed to work . it's not working. six of our families have given up completely and left the system. we scramble to put money together so our kids will be safe if people are leaving the system. it's not -- it's a district wide problem. the qeia grants were extended another year, which is great, however, as you know that limits the class size to somewhere between 18 a

it's about my understanding that peef is the only funding for arts funding for sfusd. >> there's one set of resources and that's for the elementary arts and music program and i believe together that represents about a million and a quarter of funding that still exist and to be fair, those resources are originated from the city as well from dcyf. they have not been diminished and they are still in place so i think that's definitely worth noting. as far as general funds support, general fund support has been minimal at least the time that i've been with the district and there was for a couple of years, there was a state categorical program that was specifically directed to arts and music that was, i think that was in place beginning in 2006 or 2007, around then, that was of course prior to the recession that took place and in that state recession context, the state allowed districts to repurpose many, many category programs including that arts funding and as most districts did, we had to repurpose those funds in order to make our books balanced and avoid layoffs and everything else, so

of the test scores and all the other numbers that the district uses to quantify success and other sfusd program i see we're not teaching the kids how to be successful we're teaching them facts and not all ask the come to us with the skills for success. i s a in particular don't. we serve the highest population of trauma and marginalized. as a spanish teacher i use this comparison with the indefines population with the spanish speaking countries this is not a unique problem to us ivy s or san francisco or the united states but the education effects every country in the world this is where i and we can make a difference. through the school progress i know what it means to prepare students to be successful thaip they'll be stuck in 2014 with the knowledge we test and retest and test again or they'll be innovators they'll seek new answers i've seen the children with the same passion not only for the consent but also for the quality of their own work that's really important. because of this i'm excited been the possibility for 35 my students there are is a path they'll be able to use their s

i'm the executive director of communications for sfusd. this is the first survey of this kinds we did in this district and we have a lot of -- i think overall a lot of assumptions because a lot of low income families, a lot of english learners. we thought we couldn't do a lot of [inaudible] because we assumed a lot of our parents wouldn't have access to technology. so we're going to show you what we learned and make some recommendations at the end of that. i want to thank the research planning and accountability department, as well as it and the office of community and family engagement who helped us refine the survey before we sent it out. and i want to thank our principals who threw themselves behind this survey. they found the data would be incredibly useful to them and we had great participation overall, with 94 of our schools returning a large portion of surveys and we had 16,000 correspondents. i'd like to turn over the findings to joyce. she's overall someone who saw the need for this and was able to help usher this along. >> we act

experimental real world learning and of course, the sfusd graduate profile. so what do we want that student to look like when he hor she exits our classrooms in the year 2025. we know there's going to be social emotional learning. we know our educators will not be bound by the constraints of their current credential and not bound by the current constraints of what they do currently so we talk about career lattices for career educators. not everybody wants to be an what are the opportunities for leadership for our educators in the next 12 years? and then community hubs, the sense of our schools are the center of the community. and how do we provide access for all of our communities to be part of the school community. and of course the big one, how do we align our resources to that vision of the graduate in 2025. our profile of our graduate and what we value should be very important in how we funds what we fund to get us the graduate in 2025. so all of that is very important, but it forms the basis for what we're calling our investment in the technology of the

the program in the morning and students will receive a $200 stipend and this is a partner between sfusd program and we're launching an automotive program. the students stipend is funded by the labor agreement. the goal enrollment is 20 students. this program is a five week experience and students will earn ten credits towards high school graduation and it will be two week rotations to one of the muni areas. we're excited to launch a media production house. this is going to be launched ought galleo. this has 20 students and we have 10 students to participate in the first session and another 10 students to participate in the second session. students are going to utilize their media arts to put together a public service announcements for our non profit areas. we're getting non profit organizations to help so if you know any, please let us know. students are able to earn 2.5 credits for this program. we have stipends funded by comcast. this is sprout funding the teachers. we're excited to talk about our students success structure. one thing that we're careful about is making sure all of our
