includes the at&t building which the company says suffered significant damage we turn now to nbc's shaq brewster who has more on the investigation. shaq, good morning >> reporter: good morning, michelle this is definitely a major update in the culmination of several days of investigation. of course that started on that christmas day as a result of that downtown bombing. now, investigators explained that they were able to make this confirmation, make this match as a result of connecting pieces of evidence one was a physical evidence that they got from the rv they were able to match a vehicle identification number with anthony warner. there was also the dna evidence that what we used to call human tissue, essentially the remains that they found at the blast site, they were able to match that dna with mr. warner and confirm it was that of anthony warner and then there was video evidence this happened in a downtown area with lots of cameras around. it was from that video evidence that they were able to confirm that he acted alone and that they are not looking for any additional suspects. mi

shaq, let's talk about the hospitals for a moment. there has been a spillover or they're trying to set up a facility as i understand it for noncovid cases because of the number of covid patients. tell us about that facility and how health care workers there are managing the overflow of patients. what kind of stress is the hospital system under? >> reporter: we're in one of those spillover rooms now. this is the extension of the extension this hospital has tried to do to increase the capacity for patients. look around this room here. if you were here a couple months ago, or a year ago, you would have seen this room being used for banquet halls, staff trainings. right now you see bed after bed. while this room will not take covid patients, it's a direct response of the influx of cases and hospitalizations that you're seeing in this state. across the state the top medical official said they're treating more than double the amount of patients, covid patients, they were treating just a month ago. you saw that number double in one month. if

nbc's shaq brewster is in nashville.of investigation just moments ago in a briefing? >> well, andrea, investigators are still looking to answer the question of why anthony warner attacked downtown nashville on the morning of christmas just a couple of days ago. we just got an update from, as you said, the director of the tennessee bureau of investigations. and they made clear this is a question that they're actively working to answer. we already knew that investigators were going through things like his digital devices, seeing if he had a social media footprint. but now we also know they're also conducting many interviews. talking to people who knew him and had interactions with him. one of those people including his mother, who the director said has been cooperative as part of this investigation. we also got a detail on how they found him and how they linked this bombing to anthony warner. the director of the tennessee bureau of investigations saying that they found a matching dna inside his hat and gloves, inside of th

shaq, let's talk vaccine. the shipments have been going out over the weekend. where are those doses now, and when can we expect to see them actually reaching the arms of americans? >> reporter: chris, we know some of yesterday's shipments have already begun to be delivered this morning. kerry sanders confirmed that as he was down in florida, where he watched one of those u.p.s. shipments come in. really, when you combine the efforts we saw here at the plant in the memphis, tennessee, area, with their other plant in the louisville area, we're expecting shipments to hit all 50 states at some point today. they were essentially priority overnight shipments. so those arrivals will be happening quickly. then it depends on the health care providers, what happens and the speed with which those shots will start to go in people's arms. but the reason why so many people are excited about this moderna vaccine is because it is expected to go to more places, more quickly. we watched that supply chain yesterday, and how workers were in this cold freezer room. 15,000 square fo

shaq, are they ready to ship? >> they say they are, stephanie. moderna is using a company called mckesson to distribute its vaccine. it's a company that has done this before. not only involved with the seasonal vaccine distribution but it also scaled up around the h1n1 or swine flu pandemic about ten years ago. so they say that they are ready to go. and as soon as that emergency use authorization comes from the fda, the cdc will tell them how many to ship and where to ship those doses of vaccines. you'll see workers getting started right away. the key difference is the supply chain here. this moderna vaccine does not require those subarctic temperatures. it can be sent around to more people because it doesn't require special freezers. it's between 5 degrees fahrenheit and 13 degrees below fahrenheit. moderna has ordered -- or the united states has ordered more than 200 vaccines from moderna. the company says that they'll be able to ship about 2 million by the end -- or 20 million by the end of this year. >> shaq, maura, carol, thank you. >>> for

. >> shaq, obviously california and indiana are very different places. fewer resources where you are. but they are also facing a surge. what are you seeing? >> chris, you are really seeing these hospitals be as creative as possible, doing whatever they can to expand capacity. as many of them are at critical capacity. for example, here at reed health in richmond on the west side of the state you're seeing these new spillover wings as the hospital is taking more covid patients, trying to create more capacity for hospitals and those patients. and to that point, i want to bring in dr. huth here. we talk about those numbers. 100,000 people in the hospital right now nationwide. what does that mean for a hospital system like yours? >> 100,000 is a number, but where the rubber meets the road is in places like mine where we're running at 95-plus percent capacity utilization of our icu and general medical beds. what that means, at any moment, i have about two icu beds and four general medical surgical beds, which is our buffer to manage the inflow of 60 to 80 pati

shaq, you're at a distribution center in memphis that will serve as a hub once moderna's vaccine getshe final approval, we expect today, then the cdc will do its magic over the weekend. how will it work where you are? >> reporter: as soon as that emergency use authorization comes from the fda, a company called mckesson will help distribute the vaccine. the company has done this before, for the h1n1 and swine influence pandemics. the number is expected to scale up to 100 million doses by springtime. moderna promises 200 million doses out there by the summer. as soon as they get that approval from the fda, they say they will get started by shipping that vaccine. they're also responsible for shipping kits, medical supply kits, things like syringes, medical gauze, forms to help remind people to come back for their second dose after they get that first dose. you're expecting things to go fairly quickly. one thing to note about this moderna vaccine is that it's an easier supply chain once it leaves the factory because it doesn't require those ultracold freezers. it can go to pharmacies, nur

joining me live in nashville, shaq, what is the latest on this investigation since you and i last talked? >> hi there. while lead investigators have not named a person of interest they're paying particular attention to that 63-year-old man, anthony quinn kwawarner. we saw them go in and now they're collected evidence, gathering different things and locking down that area for lots of time. they're seeing his digital devices, if there is in any social media this. they have not been able to gather any evidence that points to a possible motive for that shooting. they continue it at the last site that is about 4.5 blocks of where i am now. you see the complexities trying to pr access the scene of that size. we know they will continue to work and process that scene. one other detail is what they're calling that human tissue. possible remains. they say they have not been able to identify the source of the remains or give a update on the remains they might have been if they were inside or outside of the rv. but that is where things the attention there there is no suspect, no motive, and we conti
