matt and sheila? a sioux city man faces several charges after he tried to steal hundreds of dollars in merchandise from a store in the southern hills mall. police say 20-year-old clinton gant grabbed 900- dollars worth of goods at scheels, and investigators say gant assaulted one of the store's loss prevention officers while trying to get away. a police interview led police to suspect gant's involvement in several other crimes. he's charged with 2nd- degree robbery, two forgery counts, and three counts of vehicle theft. (sheila) sioux city police say approximately 165 vehicles have been reported stolen from august of 20- 15 to january of 20-16. these numbers do not include cars reported by woodbury county sheriff's office and south sioux city police. sioux city police say approximately of the stolen vehicles originated outside the sioux city police jurisdiction. authorities say in a majoritiy of the cases, the keys have been left inside the vehicle or it was left running unattended. police say if you

(matt) today, the city council decided to delay a final decision on the pool committee's recommendati on. if that plan had been approved. leeds and cook pools would close after the 2016 season. both facilities would be replaced with a splash pad. riverside would stay the same. lewis pool would close after a new aquatic center is built in morningside. leif erikson would remain open until the pool is no longer operational. at that time it would be replaced with a splash pad. sioux city's parks and rec director says he understands the council's decision. "i wasn't surprised, the council wanted to take a look at where we're at in the cip process before a decision's been made," said sioux city parks and rec dir. matt salvatore. the capital improvement budget january 23rd. the council plans to approve the budget on march 7th. the city of dakota city, nebraska is one step closer to building a estimated $6.6 millio

(matt) the manhunt started early today as the suspect, 25- year-old david hoffman, of santee, nebraska, escaped police custody. as he e made his escape investigators say hoffman grabbed the officer's gun. when he was last seen, hoffman was on foot. as a precaution authorities put the niobrara state park on lockdown. they also locked down schools in the niobrara school district late this afternoon, the nebraska state patrol was escorting children, and teachers, to their cars after school was dismissed. a message over the school intercom advised everyone to stay in their homes for night as the manhunt continues. the knox county sheriff says hoffman is a native american male, measuring 5-feet, 10-inches tall, weighing 150-pounds. he has a tattoo on his adam's apple. hofofan was last seen weang a sweatshirt, and dark pants. if you have any information about hoffman's whereabouts,

(sheila) thanks matt. today the governor of south dakota laid out his agenda for the year with his state of the state speech. dennis daugaard says lawmakers should pass a half-cent tax increase to improve south dakota's teacher pay. he says doing this would make teacher's pay more competative with neighboring states. the sales tax increase would raise more than 100-million dollars. some of that would be put toward helping raise the state's average teacher thousand, 500 dollars per year. nebraska gov. pete ricketts says he won't meet with the president on wednesday when he visits omaha. he will send the lt. governor in his place. rickets says he has a scheduling conflict. the governor plans to give his state of the state on thursday. you can watch for coverage of that right here on ktiv. a siouxland community may be getting a facility to help children with behavioral disabilities. ktiv's tommie clark attended a public meeting today in o'brien county and joins us with more tonight. tommie? sheila, at the mee

matt and sheila? after an incident at north middle where a student brought an unloaded gun, sioux city police shared tips for gun safety. the police department is currently giving away free gun locks to people at the station headquarters. they are cable-type locks for families who don't have ways to secure their firearms from their children.
