the monona county sheriff's office says shelby attended school at west harrison. the driver and a 12-year- old passenger went to a hospital in onawa for treatment. authorities are still investigating the accident. a northwest, iowa man faces several felony charges surrounding a income tax case. the pocahontas county sheriff says 51-year-old robert butler from laurens was arrested last night.. four counts of fraudulent practice in the first degree and ongoing criminal conduct. his bond was set at $65,000. the sheriff says the investigation took a year- and-a-half and even involved the iowa division of criminal investigation. some of the most mouth- watering desserts were on display in south sioux city, nebraska last night. the delectable dessert auction took place at the marina inn conference center. it's all part of a fundraiser for the south sioux city chamber of commerce. >> reporter: shelby, it was a very emotional meeting. about 100 students attend this small school that focuses on learning by doing. and often times a lot of the students here did not do so well in traditional school settings but arrived here. that's what the board of trustees says was the most important factor, putting the students first. but, the board voted to allow rainshadow to finish up its current school year through june, even though internal auditors estimate their budget will be quite tight with finishing the school year with only about $7500 of wiggle room. it will also allow the school to renew its charter renewal year and demonstrate its financial stability. the deadline for that is february. superintendent tracy davis at the meeting said that this was about balancing the students needs and also the letter of the law. >> breaking up the family is difficult, emotional, it is stressful, it is hard, it is painful. and, those are the things we discussed on the emotional side of the decision. and we know that. that is no secret.

springer winter storm watches in effect for shelby, harrison, monona, thurston, burt, cuming, and stanton counties through 12 am wed. our january warmth across siouxland continued and made for a really great saturday all around the region. temperatures climbed into the 40s in lots of towns but enjoy it while it's here because big changes are coming as we kick off the work week. clouds will be thick through the rest of the day as a shortwave approaches from the west. this will give the viewing area a chance for showers. as temperatures fall, the rain may mix with and change to snow in the overnight hours with little to no accumulation. we will keep the clouds for sunday as well as we set our sights on our next winter storm. this one will move in as we kick off the work week. winter storm watches are in effect for southern siouxland for the potential of 8 or more inches. these watches may expand to the north as we head throoghout the remainder of our weekee. the best bet for accumulations currently looks to be 2-4" ne, 6-8" for central siouxland, and 8-12"+ for southern part offthe area. wi
