this month on our online book club we're discussing "amity shlaes' "the forgotten man." book tv.elevision for serious readers. >>> so the idea behind 250 & 250 is instead of trying to tell the entire history of st. louis as a timeline or sort of era by era we would absolutely miss vitally important things. instead of trying to do that and failing we decided what if we just gave snapshots of st. louis' history that would give people a glimpse of all the diverse things that have happened here and they could use their imaginations to kind of fill in the rest. so we chose 50 people, 50 places, 50 moments, 50 images and 50 objects and tried to choose the most diverse selection we possibly could. we're standing in the 50 objects section of the 250 & 250 exhibit right now. this is what most people would call the real history. this is where the object is right in front of you. brewing is such a huge part of st. louis's history. it's an amazing story with lots of different breweries. and, of course, the most famous became anheuser busch when they were the largest in the world. in the era
