let's get right to chief meteorologist topper shutt in the weather center.vere storms on the way? >> now the entire metro area is under a severe thunderstorm watch until 11:00. the warnings are getting pretty close. let me show you doppler radar. this is a wide picture. see all the lightning associated with the storms. that's as dangerous as anything else. if you hear thunder, get the kids indoors. earlier today they were out along the i-81 corridor in the shenandoah valley, but they're marching eastward. these are pretty heavy storms approaching leesburg, approaching 17. the individual storms are moving

topper shutt joins us from the weather center. top, what are you seeing? >> right now it's quiet. all the showers and storms are to north of us, but the front is still way to the north of us. this is the same front we'll have to get used to. it's going to hang around. let's start with a look at the radar. notice all the showers and a few thunderstorms essentially north of the mason dixon line. so through our friends up in pennsylvania and then points north, i mean we're looking at very few showers, a couple dipping into cumberland. that's how it will be a while. so the evening commute will stay dry. a little touch of summer today. 83 downtown, 82 in manassas, 82 at andrews and even 81 up in frederick. so not bad. so for tonight a shower or thunderstorm possible until about midnight, more to the north, breezy and mild, lows 58 to 64. we'll come back, though, talk about how long this front is going to affect our weather and take it from me. it's going to be a little longer than you might think. >>> let's head out on the campaign trail where the race for the white house is focused to
