sierra snow pack, north-central and south, northern sierra, north of interstate 80, 12% of average. southern sierra, down through about yosemite, about 34% of average. if we focus on the central sierra, as of now, about 8% of that april average, the snow pack usually at its peak point into march with the big snow building month december, january and february. you can basically take december off the list now. we're going to make up all the difference or hope to from january into february into march and then from april into may, the snow pack begins to melt. 24% of normal for now. 8% of that april average, we really could use snow. fortunately the forecast does not include snow in the sierra. it brings more wind in this weekend. for the bay area, the wind may be a problem in hill tops. not too breezy. 40s and 50s outside. we'll be looking at a spare the air day for tomorrow. the winds not expected to pick up enough to push the smoke on out. into sunday, this could be or 22nd spare the air day. monday and tuesday, hopefully some improvement there as the winds will eventually begin to p

you can see the sierra snow.tover showers, perhaps a few of them in the morning hours and then becoming sunny. quiet right now and even along the central coast not looking at any activity. we are looking at things winding down. but when will this cold air get out of here? it still is going to take a couple of days. so at about a half-inch san rafael. the rainfall totals the most in the north bay. napa over a quarter inch in oakland and nearly half-inch in concord and san francisco. over a third with just over a tenth in san jose. the winter storm warning in the sierra nevada for the next several hours. still the possibility of maybe some moisture over mt. hamilton, but other than that not much left of this. we will look for a little fog. otherwise the temperatures dropping in many locations throughout the afternoon with temperatures now in the 40s. a freeze warning tonight. you can see the clear sky there, the bay bridge. we are in the mid-40s in oakland, 42 in san jose. getting a couple degrees warmer than this.

if you are traveling to the sierra, one to two feet of snow expected above 7000 feet and for the sierra foothills several inches expected as well, but the advisory starts then and last until tomorrow. i will slide you into the evening tomorrow and into tomorrow. notice again snow in those areas. as we get going at this hour still mainly dry with the rain to the north of us but by 4:00 or so seeming some slide into lake county, showers popping up over the bay area into 6:00 more widespread and then continues into the evening hours. notice this shade of pink here. a rain snow mix over the diablo range early tomorrow morning will move through quickly and drying out saturday, so saturday will be dry with scattered showers but again a decent amount of rain and snow to local hills. afternoon highs today upper 40s to near 50 degrees. the exfinded forecast with your bay area weekend always in view so perhaps foggy as we get going tomorrow morning but dry for the majority of the day and once we dry out we turn cold again, 40s to near 50 for saturday and sunday, slightly warmer monday and tuesday

snow is already falling in the sierra this morning.eporter brian hick key live where the snow is coming down hard. . >> reporter: good morning from a very snowy donners summit. the snow coming down making for whitened ground and the interstate covered that little bit of snow. it has not been enough yet to bring up chain controls on interstate 80. highway 50 and highway 88 to the south of us on the south end of lake tahoe have chain controls at this hour. i think it's only a matter of time before we see chain controls on interstate 80. temperatures in the valley, very mild this morning. in fact it's rain all the way up to about cisco grove. a few miles down the road from where we are it was raining on our way up and then it switched to snow instantly around king vail and it's been snowing for the last couple of hours. accumulations still only about a half an inch so the ski resorts hoping for a lot more. the good news, we are expecting colder air to come in. that will bring fluffier and higher quantities quantities of snow. to hopefully
