this happened around 9:15 tonight at the rancho community park in simi valley. this is video of the same accident from an aerial view. it's not clear how padly the people were hurt. the man who shot the video from the ground says he's still shaken and sends his thoughts and prayers to those hurt. we'll bring your more information as we get it. >> this is a story out of a movie. a woman trapped a few floors up in a burning building when someone comes to her rescue. the hero is a police officer. police say the officer was on his way to a different call this afternoon when someone on buchanon street flagged him down to say her neighbor was trapped on the third floor of a burning building. the officer called for help, then kicked in the door, rescued the woman and police say she suffered only minor injuries. >> no, we don't get trained how to go into a burning building, but we're trained to protect life and property and that's what he did today. >> the police officer had to be treated for heat exhaustion. >>> a lesson for all of us how to protect our homes from fire

suburb of simi valley, when something went wrong. the mood at the july 4th celebration went from joy to chaotic in a split-second. >> yeah. oh. oh, my god. oh. >> reporter: a number of fireworks shells exploding just feet from the ground. the loud blast sending terrified people running for safety, as many dodged flying debris. >> a block of wood about this big came shooting down and hit the side of my leg. >> we had bits and pieces of fireworks coming at us. a round, cylinder block hit the person next to me. >> reporter: emergency medical crews rushed to the scene, treating 30 victims. some suffering shrapnel wounds. most suffering mild injuries. as many as 10,000 people were at the show. the malfunction happened just two minutes into the show. investigators are on the scene overnight, now working to find the cause. now, the platform holding those fireworks seems to have collapsed, sending those shells into the crowd. we'll have more on this story later on "good morning america." >>> also breaking overnight, egypt braces for another

weekstigators at simi valley, california, spent today looking for clues in last night's fireworks accident. gh a flash, the fourth of july celebration turned to chaos when ch fireworks went off early, injuring dozens. bigad shaban is there. >> reporter: the show had just adgun at about 9:00 local time when, without warning, the 9:eworks ignited and started blasting into the crowd. igoh, my god! go! go! >> reporter: 21-year-old paulina felt the fireworks shooting into her back. >> suddenly we see a bunch fireworks come right at us. my whole body completely collapsed. i couldn't move, i couldn't do anything. my body was shaking. >> reporter: three dozen people were hurt, many with burns or shrapnel wounds. the company that ran the show, shy fireworks, says it believes one of its shells malfunctioned causing a chain reaction which led to hundreds of other shells unsfiring into the crowd. this man captured the chaos on his camera. >> i felt one of them going nearby me. goeryone started running so they wouldn't get hurt from the fireworks. uldneporter: today, fire investigators took to the air
