business and others, and we want to leave this city in the next generation better than what it is today. that is a goal. that is a goal that should hit every single industry in the city, from tourism to the medical field to all the clean tech industries we are inviting in. that if we can say to our generation and to my kids that i am going to use my time to make sure that every aspect of the city, whether it is waste, a compost recovery, or energy efficiency, or solar or business in itself, that we measure our self by how we have improved. and that takes a lot of effort. you know, when we're setting a goal that we want to be 80% below our 1990 levels by 2015 and today we're already at 12%, that means a lot of great effort. that means that when i get in my car every morning, even though it is a 7 volt now, right, at least i can say the first 35 miles are without a drop of oil. i am proud of that. i am proud of being part of that culture. the next step is to get to 100%. and it is my job as part of the investor confidence to make sure that we set the groundwork for the 100% electric vehicles so that we do not use a drop of oil. because, ultimately,

city governance. i thing many of you know that the budget is the most important set of decisions that we make every single year. the budget reflects our priorities as a city and reflects our values. and many of you probably also know that in recent years, every year since i have been in office, we have had a budget deficit. so we have to make some very, very difficult choices. i want to thank not only not of you who have -- not only all of you who have come here today, but those from city government, in particular are city officials. this is the second annual budget town hall, something we started in mayor lee's first year. in the first meeting i had with mayor lee after he was sworn in as our interim mayor last year, i asked him and other supervisors asked him for ways to make our budget process more collaborative and more transparent. and the budget team and mayor lee in the board of supervisors, we thought that this format of budget town halls in many districts around the city would make a lot of sense, and i think it has been a very good way for us to have feedback. without further ado, i would like t

they did not happen but we need to start assessing every single intersection in the city for pedestrian safety. i do not know what the metrics are for that, but we need to think about this. adding more meters, parking meters throughout the city. these are tools for parking management. as we do this, we need to be able to tell people where we are adding the meters, that we will improve transit in specific ways to make it better for them, or we are to put more bicycle parking in or something. we need specific things that we will say to people. yes, we are where to put parking meters and, yes, you are going to pay for parking, but we are going to start with low costs and raise them incrementally and then we will improve transit and all these other thing we want to make better. for example, geary brt, we need to find out what the holdup is. i think it has the potential to be an engine for economic growth in the richmond district. i would like to see that implemented. thank you.
