ali vitale from out in sioux city. we haven't seen or heard much of joe biden in the last week. what's his plan after last week saw a couple of missteps for the campaign. >> reporter: yeah, hallie, biden was on vacation, then raising money. today we will be back spending some of that money, coming back for his sixth trip since announcing his campaign, and going up with his first ad six-figure. it does a couple of things. fundamentally goes to his main points of this campaign, talking about donald trump front and center. it includes his service in the obama administration. and it does something you don't typically see in campaign ads, at least at this stage of the game. showing polls showing him beating donald trump. talking about strength, him as the one person who could beat donald trump. democratic primary voters seem to be leaning into that. a new cnn poll is out showing biden with one of his biggest leads in the national poll we have seen up 14 points on bernie sanders and gaining from the last time that cnn survey was in the field. that dove tails what we have seen in iowa.

at this hour elizabeth warren is appearing at the native american presidential forum in sioux city, iowahe eight candidates attending. let's bring in alley batalli who is also at the rally there. how important is this event for democrats, and especially elizabeth warren? >> for democrats it's important. this is about a million votes on the table. but for elizabeth warren this is a big deal. it gives her a chance, if you look at the trajectory of the warren candidacy, right now she's surging. she's known as the candidate with a plan for that. but if you look at how her campaign began it was really this issue, the dna test dust-up, if you will, that marred the early weeks of her candidacy and allowed people to question, would she be able to go head to head with donald trump and has she sufficiently spoken to this issue of the way in which she's dealt with her native american ancestry? and it's been interesting in talking to tribal leaders before this forum there has been a sense that that whole dust-up doesn't necessarily give them pause about her candidacy, but then today as i was talking

on the ground for us in sioux city, iowa, alley vitaly. what things are they discussing. stuff that's specific to native american kmucommunities or aski questions of any other candidate for any reason? >> reporter: yes and no. there's a lot of focus on issues focused on them, but some fall under rural health care, general job availability and economics. a lot of questions that are being talked about allow the candidates to put a lot of policies that are already released into the mainstream here with this community, and the reason it is important, you mention seven battleground states. the groups that organized the forum say there are about a million native american votes up for grabs in seven states. you think about a state like michigan, for example, where margins were so thin, donald trump won by less than 11,000 votes there in 2016, and in 2020, it is estimated that over 100,000 native americans could vote in that state. we talked to one of the tribal leaders that talks about why it is important to energize this specific group of voters. listen. >> in the past, candida

all of these types of improvements and mitigation measures are now built in sioux city projects as we design them and move them forward, typically around the 60 5% design level. we are discussing ways that we can start that even earlier and we were attempting to do that. we're talking about high-impact projects or anticipate construction being greater than 24 months and where we implement those tools where we see direct business supports. here are some projects that we have implemented. you will see these in some areas and the suite of construction mitigation measures that we implemented. twin peaks with the project in which we implemented a lot of the things are integrated in the program, central subway and both van ness are catching up. we did not have this program in place when we started these projects, but we have worked continuously to implement the tools that we are talking about with regard to those construction projects. at our last meeting, when we presented this item, we talked about lessons learned. we have implemented these to date, so trying to work a little bit earlier
