come down 13, not highway one as you travel through smyrna this morning. on the big picture a little bit of good news in hunting park. north broad street is reopened now at pike street there by how sam. fire crews off to the side. no big issues so far this morning on 95 or the schuylkill. no big delays and the vine street expressway has reopened as well but we are watching a disabled vehicle just in in lower moreland. it's byberry road at huntington pike there by the united methodist church. no big issues traveling westbound on the pennsylvania turnpike. couple work zones eastbound but westbound you're looking good. and we still have some construction going until 6:00 this morning for the next half hour at 422 and armand hammer boulevard. they're milling and paving that interchange there. so they'll clear out in the next half hour but then return at 9:00 this morning to continue their work. so watch out for the crews out there until 6 o'clock. crews working near the shore as well 322 eastbound in hamilton township and 30 absecon boulevard in atlantic city.

wow, lauren lyster in new smyrna beach, thank you for that. >> 77 miles south of where lauren is ginger zee is melbourne, florida. what are conditions like there? >> reporter: conditions here are sounding a lot more like a tropical storm/hurricane. we've had hurricane-force winds north of us, 74 and now 79 miles per hour in melbourne the airport reporting 63-mile-per-hour gusts. the outer wall is 20 miles. the inner about 30 and that's going to make all the difference storm running parallel to the shore is one thing, once that outer wall gets closer to some of these communities and beaches like cape canaveral as it nears there, that's where you'll see that type of devastating potential damage. obviously the wind, the surge, all of that still happening, the waves will be climbing in intensity. right now i can hear the rain, i can hear all of it but i don't know how it's a miracle we still have power at this hour. i know a lot of people a do not, i think it's in the hundreds of thousands that do not. this is not over and have a couple of more hours but as it moves up along the coast what

abc 7 news reporter marci gonzalez joins us live from new smyrna beach. marci? >> reporter: kristen and dan, you can see a little bit of the damage that was left behind. the powerful winds from matthew knocked down a lot of trees and a lot of big branches like this one in front of me and a lot of power lines which, of course, contributed to all of those power outages that you mentioned. more than had a million people in florida without power, including us right here running off of generators to come to you live, but the damage continues in florida. you talked about the storm surge and they are seeing a lot of that north of where we are. we're in central florida and up in jacksonville, a major issue with storm surge. the ocean actually reaching some of the dunes there and the water going several blocks impacting some homes in that area. just a bit south of jacksonville in st. augustine at a bed and breakfast, about 20 people reported being trapped inside because of the rising water. some of those people who didn't heed the warnings that were given about just how

new smyrna beach you're in the way right now. that storm is about to come onshore for you. playa linda, oak hill getting slammed with 100-mile-per-hour winds. and then farther up toward daytona beach we are seeing one more band come in for boris. i suspect in the next 45 minutes when this outer wall right here at about new smyrna gets to him, he will have sustained winds of 100 miles per hour. and those are the damaging winds. a tree, a house, a power line, can sustain 60 or 70. but when you get to that 100-mile-per-hour threshold, that's when you get the problems. that's when all of this starts to go away. the power lines go down, singh 8s come off. you even heard about a few roofs off the buildings. the closer to the water, the gustier it will be. here comes another squall for chris cuomo in jacksonville. if you want to talk to him, do it rather quickly because he will be going away. that live shot will be going away quickly in the rain. sometimes we call it rain fade. where the satellite just can't shoot up to the satellite dish or back down. because there's just too muc

when we talk about damage, i used to go to new smyrna beach. beautiful coastline right there and as far as the distance goes away now, we are only talking from new smyrna beach, 4 miles those 100-mile-per-hour winds. if there's significant structural damage done right now, it is happening here from oak hill, that's kind of the population point and then it goes into the military area in cape canaveral but this is the population centers and where the worst is all occurring. the shift occurred from the center of the storm, so now the center of the storm, the eye center is 20 miles off the coast whereas previously, last hour, we were looking at about 26 miles. so just that five mile shift closer to the coast. five mile shift to the west is now bringing our hurricane force winds to the coast. that's huge ramifications for the amount of damage done by the wind. the storm surge is pretty much guaranteed and just because our computer models off by 20 to 30 miles yesterday, doesn't mean they'll be off from here on out. the trend has been worse for our f
