so things are looking good. let's get right to steve. the inspection business. if somebody wants to buy a home they have got to make sure it is inspecked. of course those who are selling, same exact thing. tell me about your business, what you're seeing. >>>well, liz, we are coming off an outstanding, outstanding prior year. we grew 17%. we outpaced the market it looks like we're carrying that into q1 this year. for us, it is all about the dream and the data. the american dream of homeownership seems to be very much intact and data supports the opportunity for a lot of people. as you know we've had folks pushed out of the market for quite a while. mortgage rates south of 4%. for that so to be that way for 15 months in a row consecutively, that is huge economic history. so that's been a big driver for us. a bit of concern on inventory but banks have inventory. we hope they will free up some of that shadow inventory. we're happy and we had a terrific --. liz: can i ask you, steve? part of the problem a lot of homes were being inspected and

. >> so, steve, what justice kennedy said this week about the families directly in california.an to lgbt families living across the u.s.? >> well thomas, i think clearly justice kennedy gets it. the court and our country cannot have a full understanding of the issues in this case, until they take into account the real-life experiences of the millions of kids in our country who have same-sex parents. that's why we thought it was so important to elevate their voices. we were thrilled to be invited to file an amicus brief with the court that elevated the voices of these children. because clearly, i think here's what's important there are no better people to talk about the importance of marriage in this country, than those people who benefit the most which are the children. >> let's talk more about that. according to new research from the family equality council, of children living with same-sex parents, the majority are biological children. other families, they do have adopted and foster kids. is there research, steve, to suggest that families with same-sex parents fare any differ

>> well, not so fast. steve is here with cnbc's all-american survey with some surprising data on who has been refinancing and who has not. steve? >> yeah, bill, this is a really interesting finding from our survey, our cnbc all-america economic survey of 800 americans around the country. and we did have some positive housing data. i just want to give you the topline stuff before we dig in a little deeper here. this is the percentage of americans who expect their home values to increase. 54%, that's come down, the same. and what's happened here is you'll see those who say it's going to go up, it's up for a post-crisis high of 33% vest only 13%, who say it's going to decrease. but that doesn't mean we don't have problems in the housing market in this country. in fact, in some cases, quite substantially, you look at the next chart here. what we'll see, you ask people, compared to the purchase price, what you bought it for, is your home value the same? 22% saying it's unchanged, and that compares with march 2011 and

economists use it not just the normal language which means literally they have the money to buy so you know steve jobs at the price of the i phone at twenty thousand dollars we wouldn't have i phones all this so no pay or if we were in a horrible recession depression and nobody had paychecks there were no want to plan insurance nobody would have i phones so without a paycheck without the ability to pay for something combined with either the need or desire you don't have to manage without demand it doesn't matter what you supply this is why so the whole this whole concept of supply side economics when when the reagan administration rolled this thing out the one nine hundred eighty s. as a rationale for saying we've got to cut taxes for the really rich people we've got to redo our economic policies of the really rich people benefit and you know this stuff will trickle down eventually took the and they literally used that phrase trickle down economics a little trickle down everybody else and it was just crazy i mean it was a rationalization for going back to eighteenth century european economic mode

so we can go about fighting without hurting our people. >> so leave us with some hope, steve. will this be fixed somehow and when? >> no, probably not. but i will tell you that march the 27th, cr is the next battle. and i would hope that your viewers would now communicate with their elected official and say enough of this nonsense, just work this thing out. and i'm hopeful. i know john boehner really well. he'll make the deal if the president is a willing dance partner. but the president really has to challenge his party on the entitlements. and until that happens, this is going to be a logjam that won't be broken and people will continue to run from dana bash. >> you never did, congressman. but if i could just ahead to that quickly, that really is a key point. march 27th. 27 days from now, that is the date that we should be looking at and likely the date they're discussing inside the white house right now. that is when funding for the government shuts down entirely, never mind $85 billion. or i should say most of the government funding shuts down. so that is likely where any
