it apparently had some impact because the next day the brigade is going to march off to south carolina. william spain had a similar experience to daniel sellers. he enlisted in the eighth north carolina in march of 17767. he was 13 years old when he did so. he went as a substitute for his father. he served at the battles of brandywine, germantown, and spent the winters at valley forge. like sellers he marched in the fall pof 1779 to the southward and would have witnessed the execution of those. in the attack on charleston, the two men would have served with the north carolina brigade. what you see here is the american defense line and prior to the siege beginning, the british are going to be marching down peninsula. sellers with the light infantry is sent out to attack them. and on the action of march 30th, which takes place, he is wounded in the leg. he carries a musket ball which he received that day in his leg the rest of his life. his captain, joseph bowman, who he'd known for four years, was killed on that day and probably had some impact on him. both men, sellers and spain, would
