gate bridge. so mainly impacting the north bay. and then as it starts to slide towards the southeast, it really breaks up. and then south of the golden gate bridge will only get showers, light showers off and on throughout the evening. and then tomorrow we get a break during the day, but during the afternoon hours we'll start to see some light rain move through the bay area once again. and then monday night. late monday night is when our storm level two arrives. so rainfall estimates really vary wildly. in fact, you'll notice just a few hundredths of an inch in parts of the south bay san jose, maybe four hundredths of an inch. and right now they're only at about 80% of normal. but you'll notice above the golden gate bridge, that's where we can see over half an inch, maybe even up to an inch in some of the higher elevations of some of the north bay mountains. santa rosa, possibly 6/10 of an inch, and they are already at over 200% of normal san francisco, about 4/10 of an inch. so that's what you can expect over tonight. and tomorrow afternoon. lows will be in the 50s for the most part. cooler, though in ukiah and lakepor

so you haven't notice the any rain from this at all from the golden gate south. you will. through the futurecast in a second. but if you visualize the lightning detection, which we could also do if we go back to the monitor and get a little perspective on this. you'll really get an impressive complex of lightning it's a had sitting out there. likely in marin, you're not hearing a thing. most of that is going to weaken before they will get to the coastline. so i'm not anticipating a barrage of lightning strikes here as that comes onshore. but some of that will hold together in the form of lightning. you'll get rain from it. but you will probably get an isolated strike of lightning or two. let's come back to the virtual map and kind of track that again. if we switch from looking at live radar, you could see the time stamp sitting up there in the bottom corner of your screen, which will help you organize yourself. let's take that line and bring it down across the bay and watch as the intensity picks up over the next few hours. that will get us into the 7:00, 8:00 hour. this f

south from there. down to the golden gate, early afternoon, and clears the south bay by the time we get to sunset and that will be the end of that. not a lot to it. not a major storm. it is rain. it has been consistent now for about the last 48 hours in the forecast models that we are likely going to get this. does not look big. a quarter of an inch of rain in the bay, quarter of an inch in the south bay. it has been a developing item in the forecast. so, the numbers today even look different. a little lower than yesterday. one of other forecast models has the numbers higher. my point is, stay on top of the forecast. friday is particularly important to you for specifics on rain i think this one is going to update a little as we get closer to it. we will follow along with the models as we get closer and give you the latest information for right now. planning a quarter of an inch of rain, rain on friday, not a wash out, it rains, then, clearing out. no rain clearing our way for the weekend after that. that covers the rain headline. the big one, really, cold mornings. just bundle up. see you with more coming

in fact, we're starting to see the light rain already spread south near the golden gate bridge. we see folks running around with their umbrellas pulling them out, and it's starting to spread south also. so lots of light rain falling all around the bay area. and also we are expecting more rain in the north bay. so there is a flood warning for the russian river near hopland from late tonight through tomorrow afternoon. it's going to exceed the flood stage of 15ft and reach about 15.6ft tomorrow morning. flooding is expected on highway 175. this is a storm level one on our exclusive storm impact scale. tonight through tomorrow morning, we can get anywhere from half an inch, up to an inch, or maybe more in parts of the north bay. widespread rain with some gusty winds overnight. and i'll let you know if you are heading out in the next few hours. we could see some moderate rainfall through midnight. all of those rain totals for you and when we'll finally get a break. >> dan okay, frances, thanks a lot. we'll touch base in a couple of minutes. well, they're already seeing big waves in s

then by 8:00 in the morning, it starts to spread south of the golden gate bridge into san francisco. ain brunt of the system will be moving through the peninsula and the south bay, and then in the afternoon we still could see some scattered light showers, but most of it will be gone. so rainfall amounts generally less than half an inch for most everyone. we could get a little bit more in parts of the north bay, especially some of the north bay mountains. ukiah point six inches, but possibly only a third of an inch in san mateo. and some of the models are now showing maybe more in san jose. closer to half an inch with all this rain. it also means snow, so do not drive to and from the sierra starting tomorrow morning through tuesday. that's when a winter storm advisory is in effect. we're expecting up to eight inches of snow above 5000ft. chain controls likely, and travel could be delayed and difficult, so tomorrow morning's lows are generally in the low 40s to mid 40s. even a few upper 30s like livermore and morgan hill. milder in san francisco and half moon bay at 46 degrees. and then

continues to stay primarily over areas north of the golden gate bridge, but also into the city, parts of oakland and concord. if you live south of the golden gate bridge for tomorrow, there's less of a chance that you're going to get any rain at all heading into the afternoon. but that will change as we see that system approaching right around 10:00. you see the intensity of this band here. notice we get those pockets of that yellow and orange glow here. and this is where that atmospheric river starts to move in late tomorrow night into early saturday morning. look at these heavier pockets stretching from the north bay, but also down through the really entire bay area. those rain rates will pick up. and as that system continues to move through on saturday, we're also going to notice those gusty winds as well. rain outlook. right now this is kind of in addition to what we've seen so far through saturday. notice the higher totals will be for the north bay close to three inches for some. and then ben loman a little under two inches, but the accumulations could be a bit higher because of that rain rate concern. we're going to see

gate bridge and some ponding out there on the roadways. as you head further north and that rain really picking up after what was a mostly dry day south of the golden gate bridge. we had a few scattered showers, but most that rain hung up in the north. and so the national weather service has issued that flood watch that continues until sunday up in the north bay. some of the mountains there over 2 and a half inches of rain in counting. they're likely to see another 2 and a maybe as much as 3 inches of rain in some parts of the north. they lead to the possibility. some flooding along some of the small creeks and streams their impact to go along with that. we've got an astronomical high tide and that high tide really going to back up the water. and that means we're going to see the water sure running down the hills and trying to run many tributaries, the streams and the creeks into rivers. but not been able to make their way back on the ocean. we're going to see about a 7 foot tide tomorrow morning can cite coinciding with all of that rain. all right. here's that storm system really developing in the past. 24 hours and you can see area of low

especially in the north bay, where we did get some areas over half an inch of rain, but south of the golden gate bridge and farther south, we generally got less than 15 hundredths of an inch as the system moves through. here's what it looks like right now. so we are seeing some light rainfall through parts of the east bay, the peninsula, and it is sliding east overnight will still see some rain. and in addition to the high surf warning, there is also a coastal flood warning also until noon on tuesday so we could see these large breaking waves, especially near mavericks up to 40ft. and these do make for life threatening conditions. so we still have a storm level one light through tomorrow with rain and showers, slick roads and a high surf warning. and let me show you how it plays out. so most of the rain has passed through, but we will still see some showers. and then we get a bit of a break before some rain returns in the afternoon again, mainly hitting the north bay. however, after that we will see a stronger system move in late monday night for christmas eve. rainfall amounts for the next 24 h

beach also and then into the forecast that hours in the morning with the wind shifting more south along the golden gatedge and south of that closer to half moon bay with the wind speed up to around 50 at that point until around lunchtime. here are the next seven days real fast because on the backend of this storm that will die down tomorrow, we are dealing with more mild weather. sunday will be partly cloudy and a breath of fresh air together we can take with a splash of showers heading into monday and drying up in the next week and i will have more on that in a bit but back over to you. >>> let's look at the roadways. the toll plaza lights are on on the bay bridge busier than what we normally expect on a friday but we had a hotspot and a crash near the fremont street exit so making it a busy commute as you head into san francisco. also some bart delays this morning with raining conditions so slick but be careful with bart running behind schedule. check that as you head out the door but other than that besides the bay bridge and if you are making that ride it isn't too bad with westbound 80 quiet and u

if you live in areas south of the golden gate bridge, we're mostly going to get cloud cover. if you live north of the golden gate bridge, especially further up north, you're going to get some rain. so when does that atmospheric river settle in? well, we are looking at about ten 11:00 timeline for santa rosa, san rafael. and look what happens overnight friday into early saturday morning. we get those heavier pockets of rain. now. this will bring higher rain rates. we do have a flood watch that goes into effect for parts of the north bay. the impacts of this will extend into saturday evening before it really starts to back off. so here's what you can expect. we've got two storms in three days. we do have that initial storm friday into saturday. then we get a second storm landing into late sunday. monday. now the heavier rain will be primarily to the north bay, but we are monitoring those small creeks and river flows heading into sunday. we're expecting to see some of those areas crest for rivers on and off again. gusts. a wind advisory also in place. we're talking about 1530 pl

and if you live south of the golden gate bridge for tomorrow, you're not going to get a ton of rain until we see the arrival of this kind of low end atmospheric river developing that's going to move in late tomorrow night into early tomorrow or saturday morning. rather, you're going to see that become more widespread, and that will continue into about 5 p.m. on saturday before we see some of that rain start to finally kind of back off heading into that 9 to 10:00 hour for saturday. so the heavier rain will be impacting your saturday forecast. sunday's forecast does look mostly dry. and as far as concerns for flooding, if you live in the north bay, there will be a flood watch that goes into effect starting tomorrow night into sunday. the reason it's going to extend into sunday is because we're going to see those rivers cresting into sunday, so that quick rise in those creeks and river flows could bring concern for possible flooding right around those low lying areas. also, the wind advisory will kick in for areas including fairfield and sacramento. we've got a high wind watch as well that

but, you know, areas south of the golden gate bridge, the main impacts will really start to be felt overnight into tomorrow morning. and i think i'm very concerned, not only in addition to the rain, but the wind. now, keep in mind anything around you assess the situation. do you have a big tree near your home? do you have anything that has the potential to break or fly away? this is your window right now before the winds really ramp up. and here is what's behind it. we've got this atmospheric river. now, it is not considered a super strong atmospheric river. it's considered a scale of 1 to 2. so notice that moisture tap right there. and now the impacts of this as i zoom this in a bit closer of course. also bringing sierra snow. winter storm warnings will be in place all the way through saturday. and our storm ranger is showing where we're seeing some of that rain already coming down. of course, parts of the north bay. novato, san anselmo still seeing some mostly dry conditions through the east bay, the tri-valley, and also down through the peninsula and the south bay. but let's look at when i

impacts are going to extend for the entire bay area as that system continues to make its move south of the golden gate bridge. now there's a north bay flood watch already in place. this is going to remain in place through sunday. but also notice right up here through ukiah, a flood warning is also in place. now, we're not expecting to see any major flooding of our rivers, but a quick rise in those creeks and stream flows could bring some of those low lying areas for concern. with the rain rates picking up timing, this is going to be important. follow along here. we've got 830 on the map, so i do see the majority of the system still up to the north. let's advance it to about 11 midnight hours. so 11:00 pm about 12:00. you'll notice this is where some of those heavier pockets and bands start to really ramp up, extending into parts of palo alto, fremont, danville, concord, oaknd. but also that light rain even starts to move into san jose. notice the shift in the color here, where you're seeing the red and the orange. that is the level of intensity of how much rain is falling during this period. so with a

animation overnight showing those high clouds swinging through it will be a mainly clear night south of the golden gate or overnight, but up in the north bay we'll see clouds sort of lingering through the mid day and morning hours. by afternoon, though, bright skies over most of the bay area overnight, low temperatures will be generally in the low to mid 40s, a bit chillier and fairfield, where lows will drop down to about 37 degrees. now tomorrow's highs under bright skies 60 at half moon bay, 63 here in san francisco, right around the bay shoreline. most locations there will top out at about 65 degrees inland. east bay, low to mid 60s, up to about 67, actually at livermore down in the south bay, a bit milder. we'll see 69 degrees at san jose, 70 at morgan hill and up in the north bay, mainly mid 60s, 66 at santa rosa, 65 at san rafael. and here is the accuweather seven day forecast. so we've got this milder than average weather lingering over the next couple of days through the weekend. that's good news i guess. monday just a couple of degrees cooler. but then it gets cooler still on tuesday under br

also, the timing for the heavier rain also impacts santa cruz mountains and areas south of the golden gate bridge. so follow along here. if you look, this is right around 8:00. notice the majority of that rain still stays to our north. i'm going to advance us to about 1130 tonight, where you can really see that heavier band of rain as that atmospheric river makes its way through. notice the heavier impacts start to move into san francisco. half moon bay. we start seeing some light rain down through san jose and then overnight into tomorrow. look at this. this is where we really start to see some moderate to heavy downpours, with rain rates ramping up overnight into tomorrow, not only for the north bay, but really the entire bay area. and this includes areas in santa cruz and also the south bay, stretching through parts of morgan hill and gilroy. when does this system move out? notice by about 815, we get a lot of the heavier rain just to our east and to our south. and then it looks like by about 1245, the biggest impacts of this, as far as rain totals starts to clear out. and we're left be

so if you live south of the golden gate bridge for tomorrow, you're mainly going to get a lot of that cloud cover. when does that low end atmospheric river move in? so it's not a strong atmospheric river, but this does make its impact starting late friday overnight into early saturday morning. and that means that the rain rates will pick up. this is where we start to see the flooding concerns and those typical low lying areas up in through parts of the north bay. you're going to see a lot of the emphasis with that quick risen those creeks and river flows. now good news here, though it does look like it clears out shortly after 4 or 5:00. we'll get some of that rain backing off. but this could stall out. so we always still want to remain on alert. as far as totals go. right now, the model runs are showing. a lot of the higher totals will be more focused towards the north bay. this is taking it through friday. if you want to follow along, you'll notice into that late saturday forecast we could see anywhere from 2 to 3in for areas in santa rosa, ukiah, a little under two inches for ben l

the first half of the day, we'll see mainly sunny skies south of the golden gate, but lots of cloud coverthrough the north bay in the midday and afternoon hours. overnight low temperatures will be mainly in the low to mid 40s. a little chillier, a lot chillier, in fact, over at fairfield, which will have a low of 37 degrees. so quite chilly there, but a nice mild day coming our way tomorrow. even with the lingering cloud cover up in the north bay, we'll see highs there of 63 at napa, 66 at santa rosa, 65 san rafael over in the inland east bay, a wider range, a high of 62 at antioch, but 67 at livermore. down in the south bay. we'll see some of our mildest weather tomorrow, with a high of 69 at san jose, 70 in morgan hill and right around the bay shoreline, mid 60s. about 65 degrees at virtually every location there. here's the accuweather seven day forecast. as you can see, 2 to 3 more mild days coming our way. certainly mild tomorrow and sunday. but even on monday, as it gets a little bit cooler, we'll still see some mid 60s. but then tuesday the cooling continues so it will be bright an

and for most of us south of the golden gate, we're talking less than half an inch. but remember, as the rain rates pick up and the soil is already saturated, there is still concern for a quick rise and saturation in the ground. also sierra snow. this is what we can expect through the weekend. a couple more inches for some of those higher peaks, 5 to 7in. we've already seen a decent amount. we're at over 100% of the average capacity for the snowpack. so things are looking fantastic now. temperatures through the weekend are going to remain mild 50s and 60s in through saturday, sunday and monday. and then long-range outlook right now as i look ahead, because of course we've got the sunday storm moving through. we're also looking out for new year's eve notice monday mostly dry on new year's eve. we do have a system just to our north into wednesday. that one looks like it could bring the potential for some scattered activity, but again, that's mainly pushing to the north. it looks like we could be, for the most part, dry as we inch into that january 1st forecast. that's

some of the higher totals trending in the north bay areas south of the golden gate bridge, less than half an inch for this initial system. so not a huge rainmaker, but also sierra snow. a winter weather advisory is in place. this is going to make for dangerous travel conditions. 5 to 9in in some of the highest peaks. so please check the travel before you head out the door. the window to leave is probably right now. before that system moves in. that snow starts to fall right around 7 a.m. tomorrow. now this is at about. you know that overnight christmas eve into early sunday morning, or i should say christmas day. we're going to see nice system to the north. but good news here. santa is going to have clear skies on that wednesday. it's going to make for a chilly start. but if you notice, we get another system that rolls through thursday into friday. so that's december 26th into the 27th. and then we get an atmospheric river that starts to set up heading into friday, saturday and sunday. now, right now it looks like some of the models are showing that pushing more to the north. so that

and that's where we see the primary areas now south of the golden gate bridge. we're not really going to get much in the way of rain for friday. scattered activity, but here is that line of heavier rain that we're expecting. this moves in late tomorrow. so after 11 p.m. overnight into early saturday is when we start to see those heavier pockets of rain. now those rain rates will pick up. it will bring some concerns for possible flooding, but mainly for the north bay rain outlook right now less than a 10th of an inch through friday. and then here's what it looks like once we get to that saturday forecast. so just a little over two inches, maybe even higher depending on how this system plays out into early saturday. also notice the ben lowman area as well. and then of course we've got much less for areas in the south bay. however, i do want to remind folks that as we see the emphasis of this system in areas like ukiah, healdsburg, santa rosa and also calistoga, we do have a flood watch that's going to remain in place through sunday night. the reason is, is because

we're expecting 60s in the forecast mostly to the south of the golden gate bridge. 50s to the north.ut petaluma and novato it's a little bit cooler for us today. sitting in the 50s this afternoon. 60s near san francisco. upper 60s expected all the way down into the santa clara valley. now some of us off in the east bay we talked about this earlier, are under a dense fog advisory still. that's solano county specifically. just along the delta that's where that tule fog coming in from the sacramento valley really likes to linger and we've been seeing it the past couple of days. nothing new necessarily but we will continue to see the cloud coverage as well as that dense fog kind of hold on tight to the communities. now here's what's happening for us as we head outside today. mild conditions for the most part. high pressure has been kind of keeping us dry the fog still a little stubborn for some of us off closer to the east. the rest of us along the coastline into areas like napa and sonoma have been dealing with more mild conditions but watch what happens this weekend. the storms have be
