well, there's a new proposal to reduce traffic jams on a popular south bay freeway. ktvu's janeen del laave. if you live in san jose and commute up the peninsula to palo alto and beyond using highway 85, you know how slow it can get, even with a carpool lane, and that's why a city councilman from san jose is urging the v.t.a. to add a lane and to charge a toll. the valley transit authority is considering numerous scenarios, one option would be using the existing carpool lane on highway 85 and turning it into a toll lane. another option is adding an extra lane and making that and the carpool lane into toll lanes. transportation officials say it would speed up the commute around san jose. the stretch of 85 that would be affected is between 87 and 280 which runs from south san jose up to mountainview. city councilman johnny khamis says three lanes in both directions on highway 85 is not enough. >> i would rather spend the money now and make sure that we do expand because if we don't, then we leave it up to future generations and it will actually -- the impact will come and it'll be a devast
