also in the peninsula and south bay at 53 degrees.et a closer look at where we have the coldest air and in parts of the east bay we start out below freezing in lafayette, it's 27 degrees. the freeze warning continues for another hour and 15 minute theans temperatures are above freezing. in san francisco, this is how you plan out your day. a lot of sunshine and i have to bundle up and even during the evening, we do not warm up much. highs in the low 50s. next storm system approaches tomorrow. so we have to plan for showers in the afternoon. rain moves into the north bay and in san francisco as we go into the evening. east bay also sees that rain and it gets started early on monday morning with scattered showers still lingering before it clears out and then we get a chance to dry out. the next round of rain doesn't look as heavy as the previous systems we've had. and high pressure blocks the bay area from getting wet weather. how are we doing here with the rainfall? in santa rosa, we've had about 8.5 inches of rain. san francisco, 6.5.

for the peninsula rain all around. for the south bay with the storm system getting to you later you may have a few sun breaks and temperatures in the upper 50s to about 60. the north bay, east bay and for the tri-valley no doubt the heaviest rainfall as that storm arrives we'll be right here into napa and santa rosa and maybe some of those isolated thunderstorms as well. we'll stay cold in walnut creek at 59 degrees and for the tri-valley 60 expected in pleasanton. as you get a look at the weekend forecast once again rounding it out just in case you're in now, storm system friday afternoon and evening. saturday morning a few possible showers and then by sunday evening a few more potential showers as well. temperatures in the 50s over those three days. if you're heading to lake tahoe for that next two systems as we head from friday through early monday looks like 6 to 7 inches of snow. as i mentioned we could have another storm by christmas eve and that would bring the totals to two feet by then. >> that's impressive. thank you, jeff

won't be too bad temperaturewise, slick roadways here at the peninsula and also the south bay. i've just updated this graphic. the cold front is getting closer. that's what we're tracking for our chance of rain. the heaviest portion of this storm. strongest wind, heaviest rainfall will be headed right up towards pacific northwest. that's where they continue to have problems with flooding. for us, it will be the cold front moving in and the bottom edge of it. so we definitely will be getting the rainfall, but not a flood event for the bay area. we keep talking about the sandbag stations being open. it's good to be prepared for el nino. tomorrow is not a day where we expect the rivers to rise dangerously high. in the futurecast, at 4:00 a.m. in the morning, heavier pockets and calistoga, maybe some showers developing across santa rosa and point reyes. 5:30 in the morning, there's the cold front there. line you go up against napa, santa rosa. through contra costa, alameda and the peninsula as well and for the south bay. 7:30, everybody shud have some sorts of wet weather by then.

it moves into the peninsula, the east bay by noon. then the south bay right around that time as well with the heaviest rain in the early afternoon hours. it starts to clear from the north bay this afternoon but it is still raining in san francisco, the east bay and the south bay, and then it rolls on off to the east an starts dumping snow into the sierra. the rain futurecast brings us at least one-tenth of an inch. what happens here. we see the heaviest rain in the north bay, as it moves to the south it kind of fizzles out but it still looks to bring us at least one-tenth inch there which is very nice. then in san francisco, closer to a quarter of an inch, a half of an inch for the north bay, and then some spots as high as close to an inch of rain. the wind forecast, this is what i'm talking about. look at how those winds increase as we go through noon. the winds rushing in from the south, sustained winds at 35, possibly 40 miles an hour. and then after the rain rolls through, the winds shift onshore and start to relax later on tonight. highs today

the morning, we will have more of those high gusts and off on and on rain especially for the peninsula, south bay and east bay and see that the rain is pretty much steady over the south bay. and we can expect more of that as these winds continue to increase while the rest of the bay area catches a break, at least from the rain. our gusts may top 40 miles per hour or higher through 4:00 today in areas shaded in brown and includes the east bay hills and north bay hills and that effect until this afternoon. today's forecast brings it up into the upper 50s to lower 60s. no major change in the temperature from where we are now and the wind will be the issue that could bring in some downed trees and power lines throughout the day. i'll detail that and a look ahead to the christmas eve and even this weekend. that's coming up in a few minutes. see what's happening on the roadways now with mike. >> the conditions you talk about potentially bringing down the trees and power lines, looking over here. an issue for cars, as well. cameras shaking and an issue for the camera. this is in oakland. a roof top

in the low 50s, mid-50s in the peninsula and south bay. into the upper 50s for the south bay on saturday. we still stay dry there, but some showers most likely moving in to the forecast on sunday. and it's because of this. there's a couple of storm systems out in the pacific. here's round one. you can see that long line of clouds. and then we have a swirl of clouds here with the large storm system that continues to gain in strength into the next few days. so that a bigger concern. this first line looks like this is the way it plays out on computer models. a line of showers moving in by early sunday morning. and much of that fizzles out as it moves inland. and then right behind that the next storm system moves in early on tuesday. and then we'll start to see the scattered showers and then that rain wrapping up on wednesday. the early rainfall estimates at this point give us at least about a half of an inch, up to an inch and a half for most ot bay area. where the rain has been lacking the most in the north bay we could have a little bit mor

across the peninsula, 47 and in the south bay, 48. let's bring in the saturday morning forecast. temperatures are down in the 30s for the north bay with mainly clear skies. for san francisco, 48 and the peninsula, 44 and the south bay 43 degrees. and the micro climate forecast. i think it will be a beautiful day. we will have chilly temperatures, jacket weather in place. but we won't see a storm system hit us through the day throughout san jose. 59 degrees for the high. on the pennsylvania insula, 55. san francisco with 55 as well. north bay, east bay and tri-valley the only spot with a slight risk of showers is napa and santa rosa as a smaller storm system moves through the pacific northwest and graze those areas. not expecting much. the east bay, 61 in oakland. and in the tri-valley, 58 with sunny skies. let's advance to the changes. we talked about a possibility of showers on saturday from this weak spinner. but the best and highest risk of storm is coming from this system on sunday. 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. that's when it looks like the storm system will move in across the bay

have, 7:00 where you get in the east bay, maybe berkeley, san francisco and as it pushes south from the peninsulabegins to fall apart so only scattered showers there and rain amounts will be much less from san francisco south and even into our east bay valleys as well. so this is a look at what you can expect in terms of the rain, anywhere from a third of an inch to about a tenth in san francisco. look what happens from san carlos and oakland, .05 in livermore. next system coming in looks stronger and looks like it should be with us late wednesday into thursday, in fact, all day thursday, maybe an inch with this one, still a little too far out to tell and then another one after that. snow pack just 51% of normal which is good, but compared to last year 29% of normal. so each of these little systems bring you a couple of inches of snow and the one throughout the middle of the week should bring much more. upper 50s for you today with about 60 in palo alto and then the accuweather seven-day forecast looking at the rain and allowing for the temperatures to stay mild before we get our next wet weather
