[ applause ] >> thank you. thank you.>> our final guest tonight knows far too well the horror of war. he was 14 when the nazis entered his city in poland. his mother, father and young brother were murdered in the labor camps. he unfortunately has the tattoo on his arm to prove that. please welcome holocaust survivor mr. israel arbeiter. [ applause ] gentlemen, please be seated. have a seat. relax. this evening one of the interesting things we like to do is encourage audience participation. so if you have a question about a series, if you have a question about what it was like to be in auschwitz, we are going to be passing around a microphone tonight, and we encourage you to please ask questions. we want it to be as interactive as possible because so many of you have seen the series. so many of you have read about auschwitz and the killing of over a million people in the most infamous concentration camp in world war ii. so we're going to start the panel off with a couple of questions from the floor down here and then pleas

i happened to be sitting on a step in south philly. you want to know about war, the first time you get ataste of it. and i sat next to an old lady. she was up there in years. same as i am now. and a man was coming up the street. and this is about 1932 and i was maybe 9 or 10 years old. and a man wasoming up the stre street, and he was walking. and there were ceme cracks, all block, squares. and he was walking, and he wouldn't step on the crack. and he walked all the way up the street like that. he was going to mass. and i said, mrs. lyons, mrs. lyon why is he not -- he won't touch any cracks? she said that man was gassed in the first world war, and this is what war does to you. so i went home and said to my moth mother, mama, mrs. lyons said that he was in the first world war and he was gassed, a man that won't step on the cracks in the cement. and my mother, of course, she was always very, very into the house. she never would leave the house. irish. red hair. quite a temper. and had four boys. i guess that was part of it. and anyhow,

as you point out, his mother celebrated by decorating their apartment in a rundown section of south philly. at the same time she worried about how to help him pay for college when she had $28 in her account. >> $28. the truth of a lot of these stories is the economic realities in the country. for so many of these people writing in that was the impetus to write. and in stephon's case his mother had been unemployed for a very long time. her unemployment benefits had run out. she was watching this very channel, c-span, watching session of congress, trying to see if her benefits would be extended, if there was any way she was going to be able to put this down payment toward her son's education. meanwhile, he was having this exchange with the president. and the parallels were really just stark there as they tried to figure out a way to get him into school. >> just under ten minutes left in this segment. norman, oklahoma on the line. abdel, independent. how are you? >> caller: howdy. doing well. i'm not really your regular kind of caller. i'm an international student here in the united states. a

it happened right in the front of the ballpark on south capital street just before the start of the game between the nats and phillies. the female victim was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. >>> conflicting reports are emerging about a young man killed during a domestic dispute with his own father. some friends call matthew price a good guy. >> however, price was a registered sex offender. are the two related? we have more on the shooting. >> reporter: it is not clear if matthew price was naked when he left the apartment he shared with his father for the last time. but witnesses say that is how he was found steps from his front door. montgomery county police say he was shot to death by his own father, a security guard. >> a whole bunch of a cossey with police and ambulance and firefighters. >> reporter: 23-year-old matthew eugene price was shot in the chest just before 9:00 p.m. saturday. >> the body was found naked in the middle of the parking lot. unfortunately, little kids saw him and found him. >> reporter: the victim's father, 55-year-old wayne price, admitted to shooting his son during an argument.
