people in southern china are dealing with heavy rain. mai shoji has more in world weather. >> every year people in china have dealt with severe flooding during the rainy season. but the rainy season this year has brought torrents of rainfall. the rain band still stretches into southern china and has been bringing drenching amounts of rainfall. people in guangdong province are still wading through knee-high waters. unfortunately rain will continue in the amounts of 100 to 150 millimeters in localized regions, certainly heightening the risk and concerns for further flooding and landslides. swrls mudslides. southwestern islands of japan has been dealing with flooding as well. down to the south, a tropical low pressure system is approaching the philippines and will be affecting the eastern seaboards. as well as the western coast due to the southwestern monsoonal flow being enhanced. so much of the archipelago will be looking at more torrents of rainfall. considering japan where we had really extreme weather patterns for the last couple days w

we were talking about the rainy season down towards southern china. during the weekend the rain spread toward the north and east into places like beijing and shanghai. let me show you some video coming out of this area of the central and eastern portions of china. saw torrential rains over the weekend. it alleviated the extreme heat wave, but it did cause traffic disruptions, and damage in several regions. those heavy downpours accompanied a thunderstorm inundating beijing streets, canceling flights, and damaging crops. but the rains did help out with the temperature. highs on friday, 41 degrees in beijing, down to 27 on sunday. let me show you what's happening on the board here, and we are seeing the low pressure system that was responsible for the rain in the northeastern corner of china shifting toward the east so the korean peninsula, since monday, has been seeing some rain, more rain is expected for you as we go in to tuesday and wednesday. and now the rainy season is kicking in for the western portio portions of japan. kagoshima saw rain in 24 h

this year's rainy season is quite active over southern parts of china. yesterday heavy rain fell one month's worth of rain fell in just six hours. we have some video to show you. people in south china saw the biggest floods in almost a hundred years caused by rainstorms. the region is suffering extensive damage to agriculture, transportation and property. more than 200 millimeters of rain fell in six hours. th the river was a disaster side. landslides cut off access to sources of clean drinking water. very, very critical situations are happening over southern parts of china, and unfortunately, the seasonal rain is still active. on top of that, we have a new low pressure system. all combined are causing pockets full of rainfall. we're expecting up to 200 millimeters in rain in many places. that's more than a month's worth of rain for june. more flooding is going to be happening over the next several days. meanwhile, heavy rain is also pounding bangladesh and heavy rain will likely move into the southern part of hidusha by saturday. 30 degrees with partly

the big topic this past week has been a tropical storm that made landfall sunday afternoon in southern china. the storm system went away, downgraded to a tropical depression, expected to be over by then. but take a look here, it is back to a tropical storm, reintensified here on your tuesday morning. winds now up to 65 to 90 kilometers per hour. actually saw some wind reports, about 72 kilometers per hour. gusty winds, high waves. the biggest threat is going to be rainfall. in the southern portions of kyushu, you could see as much as 200 millimeters of rain. that's toward the west. still northern parts of japan, yesterday we saw even rough weather there, that's going to be occurring during the afternoon hours. if you have daytime heating combined with cold air aloft that could spark off some strong thunderstorms. towards europe, i want to talk about this storm. staying on the topic of severe weather, we actually had a tornado in bulgaria. large hail and gusty winds over 100 kilometers per hour reported in italy. that threat is still here as we head through your monday, tuesday, even into wed

so a lot of wet weather to talk about from southern china, and now most of japan seeing more rain now moving in to the picture. however, we had a tropical depression that is now a tropical storm, and is now slowly moving toward the north and east. it's not going to have a particularly long life span. we are expecting the system to be absorbed into the monsoonal rain front. but that is going to bring some impacts for the western island, okinawa, of japan, and it looks like the rain influence will expand into tokyo as we go later on this week. and, of course, the rainy season, i said that the named system will be moving away from the philippines, but that does not mean that the effects from it, the rainy effects, will continue to linger especially for the northern island of luzon. taipei, manila into hong kong and bangkok, you'll be seeing rain and even thunderstorms. tokyo also dealing with some wet weather as we go into our thursday. we take a look now at india where the heat wave continues for the northern portions of the country. but you see here a spinning system. this is cyclonic

but it looks like southern china, more rain, more flooding rains will continue as we go throughout the next few days. i want to draw your attention to a low pressure system down toward the philippines. this developed, and it's something that we'll be watching out for. regardless of whether it actually becomes tropical, it is going to bring a large amount of rain on top of the fact it's already a monsoonal period. and so expecting rainfall totals as much as 100 millimeters as we go throughout the next 72 hours. let's take a look at the americas where we are seeing some activity over the eastern half of the united states and into the southern portions of quebec. there is a history with this low pressure system over the ohio river valley producing tornadoes. there were four tornado reports out of indiana on tuesday. this system continues to bring rain and strong winds as it pushes toward the east. and we are now looking out for a low pressure system over the rockies. this is going to be the next significant weather maker when it comes to the possibility of some strong weather with strong

flooding is also another huge concern in the southern areas of china. this is do you to the rainy season. the season is still here lingering over the river and along it as well as the lower locations will be provided with additional amounts of 100 millimeters of rainfall. it is sandwich by heat wave in the north and southern locations. the southeast, heat warnings in place. some locations could hit 40s for the high temperature today and tomorrow. it is very unstable across the northeast with the air, the upper level air temperature and the surface heat is going to be bringing unsafe conditions again and thunderstorm warnings are in place widely across the region. that is likely to descend to north and south korea by saturday. we look and see the rainy season officially called off in okinawa. now, hot 33 degrees with plenty of sunshine, that's likely to continue for a week. watch out for heat stroke there. beijing is reaching up to 34 degrees. as for tokyo and parts of yokohama. we are likely to see afternoon showers. not welcome for dinnertime. showers

you can see the west, taiwan, southern portions of china, just north of hong kong, 100 to 150 millimeters of rainfall very likely here as well going through the next 24 to 48 hours. southwest mat monsoon continues to kick up for the tropics. towards bangkok on the topic of the tropics i do want to talk about tropical storm boris. you can see on the satellite picture it's not that impressive, not that organized. this is a low end tropical storm. 65, gusting up to 83 kilometers per hour. just barely holding onto that density. with that said it is going to be a rainmaker. and that's the big problem with this one. it's pushing that moisture onshore. we also have a weak tropical low just off here towards the north. so that combined is bringing that threat of flooding out here into southern portions of mexico, just towards the east of salina cruz where this is making landfall and also over towards guatema guatemala. that's something you want to watch through the coming days. elsewhere in the americas we are looking at severe thunderstorms. that's the big topic towards the north. look at this fl

if we look at the satellite the cloud is in the extreme southern parts of china and the heavier rain is through parts of vietnam. it sweeps through the philippines into taiwan. this is the reason we see most of the rain. over taiwan will be heavy. this area of low pressure will be a feature of your weather. that is going to generate strong winds. it's the rain that will cause a problem. we can expect to see flooding in taiwan. meanwhile, further moth there has been rain for some of us in japan. you see the latest sad light showing the rain, pushing north wards. it's pulling away towards the north. ukraine is struggling to cope with tens of thousands of displaced people forced to leave their homes in the east. most are escaping from slovyansk. kim vinnell reports from a smaller city trying to deal with the influx. >> when they fled, they left with the clothes on their back. they lived beneath a tactical position for separatist fighters. when their house was shelled, they knew it was time to leave. now they live in a soviet camp. >> translation: we had to go away to this place, to this
