mike, i've heard some reports of thunder mixed in in southern new england. >> reporter: there has beent here in the low area. we wanted to get deep enough in the cold air aloft. we are looking for 8 to 12 inches out here. a little bit of snow on the ground from previous storms. it's been relatively comfy since late last week. we had temperatures in the 40s. on ground hog day on sunday, it was 55 degrees. logan, 40% of the flights have been canceled. about 40% of all departures have been scrubbed today. look at the radar, it's coming in like a wall of snow. over in nearby worcester their visibility went from no snow at all to heavy snow and a quarter mile. the snowfall rate will be one if not two inches an hour. it will ease off over lunchtime and then the sun will come back out tomorrow. bill, all schools in the area have been closed for today. >> yeah, i mean, you've been in this a million times. i would rather have all snow than get the snow and freezing rain. >> reporter: yeah. the difference with this storm is the previous storms, temperatures were in the teens and single numbers.

jennifer glass wadded into southern england to give us a view of the historic flooding here. >> this is something we are seeing all over britain, one ofman hundreds of roads flooded, houses threatened. if the water goes up just a few mo more feet here, this is on higher ground. we have been to dozens of houses here today who were where the water is just inches away. a lot of people have already left their homes here in raysbury to across the country. many have moved furnishes to the second floor, what they can and taken things off of the ground. worry seeing the army come into these villages going door to door, helping people that they can here in the an army truck getting through these villages, trucks and big four-wheel-drive vehicles are the only way to get around. we have been to several villages nearby and many are them are worse off than here in raisebury. some areas totally cut off, the water is three, four feet deep. here in raysburgy many have left thomas. others have moved belongings up onto the second floor. these are scenes we are seeing repeated across britain as this fl

the month-long flooding that's drowned huge swaths of southern england is still getting worse. the thames river burst its banks today, 20 miles upstream of london, inundating small towns and villages. we have a report from tom clarke of independent television news. >> reporter: it started as a flooding crisis, it's now an all out war on water. the flooding far below is now into its eighth week. these fields around the submerged village of morland are the new front line. but the earth works aren't to save the village but keep the floodwater where it is. to protect the town of bridgewater from almost inevitable flooding they're throwing up an emergency dyke across there as fast as the diggers can dig it. then, these pipes and pumps fresh off the boat from holland are going in a new river channel being dug there to try to get water from behind the dyke into the river parrett which drains to the sea. the problem they've got is if there's more flood water than those can handle anyone living on this side of the dyke is going to experience worse flooding than they have done already. t
