the flood watch is covering the beltway into the surrounding counties, southern virginia and even portionsrthern neck of virginia. that's in effect till 8:00. the rain continues to push up from the south and the cold front is slowly moving east because of that slow movement and the tropical fetch we're getting here. we're going to see rainfall amounts between 1 and 3 inches in parts of the metro area. we've already seen that amount in some locations to the west of the beltway. this is a doppler estimate of the past 24 hours. most of this has fallen in the early morning hours. you can see 2.1 inches just south of 81 in the front royal area. the same general area where we had that brief tornado warning early this morning. and then up in frederick county, we have already received an inch and a half of rain and the rain continues to fall not very heavy right now. we will see more of those heavier cells moving toward us as we head into the afternoon and early evening hours. so the yellow alert is in effect because of the rain and storms that will continue to push through through the early eveni
