darcie spencer has our news four exclusive. >> reporter: dozens of motorcycle riders have a need for speed had to slam on the brakes and pull over. they were crack down on so-called rocket bikes. >> we're getting a lot of complaint from the homeowner's association. the civic associations. and reference to motorcycle racing and also racing vehicles. >> reporter: for six hours, prince georges and other county police departments targeted riders who just can't ride 55. >> they'll come in between the cars on the line. they're doing probably 100 down the road. >> many motorists we talked to support the enforcement, they say it's not just speed that's a problem. it's hotdogging. >> i watched a guy on indian highway from one stoplight to the next. >> most of the cyclists we saw today seemed to be going at a safe speed. chances are they saw all the enforcement in the area and slowed down. speeders are attracted to indian head highway because of its straight streps. in 200 several people died as a result of the street race in this same area. >> how fast would you say some of these bikes are go

darcy spencer has a look at how they're coping. darcy? >> reporter: at the height of the storm pepco had 45,000 outages. they're made progress, but obviously it will take some time. take a look down here. this is newton street in bladensburg and this was the hardest hit area, and there is debris all over the streets and pepco crews are doing all they can. if you come back over this way, just to give you an idea of the sheer fort of the winds, this white thing is the roof of a nearby apartment building that flew about 200 yards and landed here on an suv. so they have a lot of work to do. a lot of these lines are tangled up and we are told it could be sunday night into monday morning before they get the power back on. pepco officials say they're working 24 hours a day to get the power restored and they have their workers as well as contract workers and other utility companies working on this and because of the sheer magnitude of this problem it will take everybody's time to get the power back on. >> our customers are our number one focus, w

darcy spencer is live tonight in cheverly, maryland. >> reporter: pepco is getting help and they can sure use the help. there's a lot of devastation here in prince george's county. this is one example of some of the devastation, a large tree, limbs came down and fell downtown the power line here. there's damage to this home. this is what we're seeing here throughout the town much cheverly. a lot of streets have been blocked. some damage to homes. this is what's left of a power line that fell on a property here in town and the fire marshall told the owners they are lucky that their house didn't catch on fire. a 7,000 volt power line fell on this property on greenleaf road during friday night's severe storms, electrifying the fence and the house. there are burn marks on the home, on the carpeting, even the doorbell was burned out. >> all of a sudden it looked like fireworks outside, yellow blue, green sparks and flames and this power line had come down and was whipping in the wind and sort of beating against our house and making flames. >> reporter: she shows a piece of the torn power

spencer christian is tracking wind speeds. spencer? >> now we have wendz measured at 17 miles per hour, along the embarcadero in the area of the fire. they're lighter earlier but have become more brisk. that is not an unusual thing for twoindz pick up a little bit. and at sfo there are gusts to 21 miles per hour as you can see here on the big maps. and the winds are lighter here in san francisco. there is 7 is degrees now in this part of san francisco. there is humidity at 46%. so it's not very dry. it's not very hot. the winds could become brisker later into the afternoon. they could pick up a bit. so winds could continue to be a factor in containing this fire, but temperatures should not be and humidity should not be. so let's hope that winds don't get much stronger than they are now. >> and there is one thing we appeared to notice it appeared the winds were blowing flames out towards the bay and not back towards the city. and there is huge plumes of black smoke. >> that is correct. >> winds have been out of the west and there is of

darcy spencer is live and talked to some of the folks affected by the storm. been a long 24 hours for them, right, darcy? >> reporter: it certainly has. jim, to just give you an idea of the devastation, this here is just one of 20 condemned buildings here in prince george's county. you can see there are tarps over of parts of the building. take a look at the very corner of the building. a huge piece is missing. you mentioned there are a lot of power outages here in the county. thousands of people are without power. many of them told me tonight they feel fortunate because they escaped with their lives. loretta banks is in tiers. her condo unit she's rented was heavily damaged friday night during a storm. she and her family are spending the night at a shelter. it could be months before they can move back in. >> i have a 4-year-old who will be 5 monday and a 3 year 0 old. and i've got -- she's asking me about a birthday party. i have to explain to her, baby, i can't give you a birthday party. >> reporter: meteorologists say it was a microburst packing high winds
