you were describing for us earlier that this area is fairly near the stade de france which we're now seeing in the center of our screen. >> reporter: yes. the stade de france is the major football state um and was the scene of one of the attacks, one of the first attacks on friday night, attackers use iing - who detonated themselves. this is not far from the north of paris. the most significant thing is that it is also very densely populated, a poor disadvantaged neighborhood with a large immigrant community and a high level of unemployed youth here. the french authorities have been concerned about radicalization here. young people who have to work, who are often stopped and searched by police, who feel that they're picked upon with no opportunity or prospects. they're having concerns with these people, these young people that could be prey to radicalization. they could be receptive to the kind of measures placed on social media from radical groups. it has been significant as well that a number of the leads in this investigation have come from the suburbs. for example, the eastern sub

stade de france was the first target of friday's attacks that left 129 victims dead. just under six miles from paris, saint-denis is the main town of the multiethnic saint-denis apartment. the saint-denis, the burial place for french kings, this is now an area with a high proportion of immigrants. 38% in 2012 were immigrants according to statistics. the overall unemployment is higher than 13% and has a relatively high crime rate. it was in 2005 that riots broke out near saint-denis with violence spreading quickly to the rest of the department. the unrest lasted four weeks as french youth were protesting against living and economic conditions and discrimination. a decade later, violence strikes again in a different and more horrific form. and the wounds for this suburb have renewed. >> well, as the people of france continue dealing with the attacks from friday, the french government is viewing revenge against isis. >> they are talking about going after the people who planned the attacks. we are joined by melissa bell, the editor of the newspaper here in france. they sa

authorities and i've seen diagrams and itineraries, that the person who blew himself up at the stade de france did have a syrian passport. that's what he showed when he came to greece. in greece, he was given additional documents that legalized his status as a refugee because he claimed to be a refugee. so he was given those documents. then his itinerary shows that he went to macedonia, serbia, croatia and then to italy and then somehow came here. there's been a lot of talk about the whole belgian connection. that's op the border. maybe he came in from belgium. again, to reiterate, the cadaver that was cleared up after blowing himself up, the finger of that cadaver matched the paperwork that the french say is attributed to him. that's how they know this was this person. they strongly believe, they say there's no doubt he was part of an organized ring of infill traitors into the refugee people coming over to greece by boat. and because his fingerprints were not in any known french data base. so he was somebody new to the french authorities. totally different to the french national who was one o

there were reports of at least one suicide bomber at two fast food cafes close to the stade de france, an attack designed to maim fans flocking to a packed game. one told how being on the phone may have saved his life. >> translator: i was crossing the road and there was an explosion. everything went up in flames. i felt the reverberations. i fell down. here's the phone that took the impact, and it saved me. >> reporter: but then as if things couldn't get any worse, it became apparent a major situation was unfolding at one of paris's best-known music venues. security units surrounded the bataclan theater. inside, the 1500-seat hall was a sellout. music lovers had come to watch the american band eagles of death metal. this mobile phone footage was filmed just before the attack. ♪ the gunmen stormed the hall, shooting in the air, claiming their actions were revenge for france's intervention in syria. >> translator: the concert had started about half an hour before. we heard firecracker noises and we turned around and saw two young people. two young people, well, we were a bit far away,
