this is in stafford township ocean county.ed greenberg, our jersey shore bureau reporter is now on the phone with us. ted, tell us where you are and how close you are to this house explosion? >> vai we're a couple of blocks away from it. we just arrived on the scene in stafford township now. i know you're taking a look from skyforce10 above the area on oak road and you can see there is still active fire a lot of debris scattered all over the place. as you have been saying three injuries were reported so far. one very serious. one of those victims is a gas company worker. as you can imagine, this is a very active scene right now, police have closed off many roads, so we're trying to make our way to the scene to get as close as possible. we'll also stay a safe distance away. people are outside their homes, many people in this area say that they felt the explosion. it was just that intense. and, betweenagain we're trying to get as close it the scene as possible. when we get there, we'll be back in touch with you. >> stay with us.

it injured more than a dozen people including members of the stafford township fire department. in spite of suffering concussions and temporary hearing loss they continued their rescue efforts. now, last night nbc 10 showed the video of that explosion to the stafford township firefighters. there's the dashcam part there. six of those firefighters were injured, knocked off their feet by the blast, but they got up and went back to help seven injured gas workers including two who were trapped under piles of debris. the firefighters talked with us about the moments following the blast. >> surreal. your body couldn't process it fast enough. >> somebody or something, someone above was looking out for us. >> i got, in my heart, the best fire department there is. >> now, investigators say a crack in a gas main under the street actually caused a leak that led to the explosion in the home. 15 people were injured and a gas company worker remains in critical condition this morning. and guys on nbc10.com, we have expanded that dashcam video that everyone's been watching. we have the full aud

nora muchanic is live now from stafford township with a new look at that damage. >> reporter: hi there sara, oak avenue was reopened this morning and we are getting our first up close look at this and from the damage here you can get a sense of how monumental this was a guest house blew at 10:00 yesterday morning and gas crews were in the area at the time investigating reports of a gas odor and what is still standing is just the foundation, everything else is blown to bits. the area is littered with splintered wood and broken glass and installation and all the things that make a house i have seen toy fire trucks and couches and even cue balls homes near the blast site are damaged. it appears that number 55 may have been moved off its foundation and debris is all over the yard 15 people were injured and seven of them were gas workers i have with me now michael kinney, the spokesperson for new jersey natural gas what can you tell us about the cause. >> we identified a cracked 2 inch distribution main. >> what happened with that quickly? >> the natural gas underground follows the path of
