law school. was encouraging us to go to college in the ivy league. i was 16 at the time. in the alternative, he wanted us to go to cal or stanford. he gave me this book and he sold me on the virtues of going to the ivy league. you kids are so lucky today. when i was a kid, you had to do a whole lot of research about where you were going to go to college. you had to write to them and ask them to mail you stuff. you can't just go online and look at their website. it was a lot of work. i was doing that work and one day i came to the dinner table. i showed my parents this book and i discussed the virtues of going to the ivy league. i told them i want to go to brown. when my dad came home from work, he said i need to talk to you. i said ok. we walked into the backyard. we sat in the table and he said ever tell your mother that we have had this conversation. do you understand? it must've been the dumbfounded look on my face. he said ever.
