why is this right for starbucks? >> over the past year or so when we introduced mobile payments at starbucks. we have never seen anything adopted so quickly. we're currently processing over a million payments a week already. and so we' been looking to see how we could significantly enhance that experience. we've been talking to every tech company about this. when i met jack and got underneath the square hood so to speak. we were so impressed with the level of entrepreneurial spirit, we could do something for the american consumer that could not be done before. this is going to be a break through moment not only for starbucks but -- >> if i sign up to square and i have one of these on me. i walk in and i say my name, they tap it into the ipad or whatever it is they have been the counter, up come my details, it's done. >> that's eventually it. we're starting much smaller, starting much simpler. so we're starting by carrying every single starbucks transaction. so all credit card transactions and debit card transactions,

starbucks has signed square incorporated. it uses a different technology that does not require swiping or tapping card. you have to register for it. we want to find out how this works. let's turn to silicon valley correspondent. you say this is going to take effect this fall. how does it work? >> this is a very big deal. the notion of never having to grab your wallet to pay for anything is happening sooner than we all might realize. that's because starbucks has formed an alliance with the san francisco start up called quire to handle all its credit card transactions. the credit card isn't going away any time soon. you would pay by saying your name. you go into a retailer or coffee shop like starbucks and a photo of you will appear on an ipad screen. then you go and do all your shopping and you go up and you want to pay and just say your name and it will compare your actual face to the photo. you don't have to take out your phone. there's no credit card. there's no signatures. that is it. that is what is eventually coming to s

you see the starbucks card.t has a bar code on it and you scan it in front of the bar code reader on the starbucks counter and it pulls from your credit card that you linked previously. that's it. i think it's going to move faster than anyone expects. you see this transition to mobile being a device to pay. and this is bringing up -- in the world, in a major way. >> so how big a disrupter is this for the competitive landscape? veriphone down big on this. dorsey, he's such a big achiever. by the way he founded twitter as well. >> 60 billion. that was the marketplace in 2011. close to $175 billion. that's the estimate in 2015. how do you make a winning tradeoff? the way i've done that is to look at nxpi the near fields communication however that really has not gained the momentum that you would think in the mobile payments space. it's more about the infrastructure itself. visa, master card, they continue to win in this environment. point of sale, veriphone, 3679 a-y, that continues to work in this environment and
