behold, the republican party's contest to put forward their best choice for president of the united states, leader of the free world and commander in chief of the largest military the world has ever known. teddy. now, in terms of what mr. trump said about ted cruz's campaign going up in flames and this just being a desperate attack from senator cruz because senator cruz is so worried about how bad he is losing to donald trump, there is a little bit of a point to that. in the latest south carolina polling, that bloomberg poll has donald trump winning by a mile, ahead of ted cruz by 19 points. the monmouth poll also has mr. trump out by a mile leading ted cruz by 16 points. nationally the picture is also stark. in a "usa today" suffolk poll, donald trump has a 15-point lead over senator cruz. in the new national quinnipiac poll that's out on the republican side, mr. trump has a 20-point lead over ted cruz. he's at 38% support in the new quinnipiac poll. and that's the highest level of support mr. trump has had nationwide throughout this entire campaign in that poll. that led to this sort of

you have to appeal to the state republican party. secondly you mentioned sell gate situation from 2012, it takes a few months to allocate convention delegates. the ron paul people kind of gamed that system in 2012, they changed the rules as a result so delegates awarded will be related to what happens tomorrow night. the other thing is the thing about iowa is so much of the state is rural. 99 counties. i'm giving outbig ones here. a lot of these counties, a lot of these squares, you're talking about 80, 90, 100, 110 people showing up. santorum won by 20, 30 votes, whatever the margin. because of the county he would get 28 votes, mitt romney would get 24. it takes a long time to get all of those in. that's another complicating factor here. >> steve kornacki at the board with all 99 counties in iowa. steve, thanks. and let's go all the way to the west in iowa to sioux city where, as mentioned earlier, donald trump wrapped up an event tonight. katy tur covering for us. what does he have remaining on the schedule? and what room to call i

each state is a lot of delegates, both republican and their party leaders or early supporters of candidates and come caucus day, after the popular vote is tallied, the delegates are divided up and then they go to the national convention to vote for your candidate on your behalf. here is where it gets weird. they do it differently. this year, republican needs 1237 of 2472 delegates to secure the nomination. 17 delegates after iowa and new hampshire. become the party nominee. you may think, bernie sanders is ahead after the landslide so. hillary clinton is crushing the excuse me? that is right. this is the part where it gets perplexing. democrats have a superdelegate. those fancy delegates are not bound by popular vote. they can vote for whichever candidate they want. let's show you new hampshire to explain. bernie hampshire -- bernie sanders crusted. new hampshire's 24 delegates and sanders got 15, based on popular vote and clinton racked up nine. new hampshire has eight of those superdelegates, six of whom have pledged support to clinton, bumping her number up to 15. now, new hampshire is b
