and we're about to pick up a majority in the statehouse. so this is a very good year for democrats in texas. >> there's a -- i know texas politics, it's always been hard, you know, for years, it's hard for democrats to raise money there. there was a bunch of trial lawyers who you could go raise money from. there weren't a lot of other sources of donors. that has been kind of redone by act blue and online fund-raising as you demonstrated in your race two years ago. you've now got the biden campaign is going to spend $6 million on texas campaign ads. the lincoln project has a $1 million digital ad campaign in this state. how much does the money matter in a state as big as texas and as expensive as texas at this point? >> yeah. texas used to be the atm to the rest of the country, and now you're seeing the rest of the country start to invest in texas, including -- and i want to thank him publicly -- joe biden investing $6 million to go on the air, which is probably $6 million more than any democratic nominee has spent in this state in the last

finkenauer: student loan debt is something i worked on since i was in the statehouse. one of the ideas we have and have been working on and have a bill coming out shortly has to do with targeting forgiveness of student loans, looking at even population and how do we make sure we are attracting more people to states like iowa into our towns that have lost population? it would be a targeted approach where you would qualify for forgiveness because studies show that if you are in an area for over eight years, you are likely to stay. we can be smart about how we do this and encourage employers to also match forgiveness and attract more people. i have friends i graduated with that have moved away and want to come back home. they are getting married, having kids, and want to find the opportunity but are still paying off student loan debt and be have to give them options. rep. hinson: i don't believe in wiping away debts, it devalues the people who have saved money to invest in their education, but also college is not the choice were everyone and i'm not going to ask everyone

socially speaking, some pretty bringingt wing groups, guns to the statehouse, that sort of thing. populace in the state, her approval rating has been solid. david: give us a sense about how the early voting is going. how is it going, how will it break down in michigan? david w.: we have a lot of absentee voting going on. i think it is already almost double the total from the last election. almost 2 million early votes cast, and many more have been applied for. last time, 1.4 million. not quite double but a lot more. the total number applied for is a lot, that is the bottom line. there is a benefit to democrats because a lot of democratic voters wanted to do the mail-in ballots. iso, among those, i think it four times the number of young people applying for them compared to 2016. trump does not do as well or voters 35 and under. it is a good sign for barding heading into the last week and a half before the election. david: some concerns that we would not get as many young people voting because of college campuses not up and running. in,d w.: if they can mail they will happily do it

the way they want to, yet they are coming into our homes, into every part of secular life, our statehouses, our legislative chambers, to use their religion to determine, our human rights, our civil rights. i hope that that comes up. >> where do you see chief justice john roberts falling in this case, that the supreme court will start considering on november 4th, and if this offers some kind of precipice for a real possibility of the court reopening the issue of same-sex marriage ultimately? >> i choose to believe that chief justice roberts is a firm believer in precedent and not taking away rights that have previously been granted or confirmed by this court. so i look to that as my hope, and the fact he did not join in with justices thomas and alito on that. >> james, you talked about what life was like before your victory in the supreme court, and then what it was like after. how do you define the change? >> you know, that change was fundamental, it was enormous. it changed everything about my life and my being. you know, i can't sit back and allow our rights, our civil or human rights to
