i worked at park station, and finally as central station as lieutenant. i gained experience learning how public safety and quality of life issues interact with the city's entertainment industry. during my time with park station, i walked on hey street for about five years. during this time there were about five clubs and bars along the street. it was my obligation to meet with these owners of these establishments and with residents to ensure the two could share the neighborhood with few conflicts as possible. tlrn often competing interests, but i saw how opening discussions could lead to an agreement and heightened understanding of opposing viewpoints on both sides. later we were given fending on what was going on in the city at a particular time. when clubs or jars were having problems we would be assigned to saturate the area and conduct high visibility patrol. i saw the positive effects of this tactic as well as some of the negative ones. as a sergeant assigned to bay view station along with my patrol duties, i also performed the task of acting as the

"today in the bay's" stephanie chuang live at the bart station this morning, stephanie, that station is the focus of this crackdown. >> reporter: yes, good morning to you, laura. first i want to say that for days like today, nights like last night where it's rain organize cold, these provide shelter for the homeless people, that's what they're telling us. gates close, but there were people even here at the midnight hours. and down this hallway, there were people already sleeping here, but we watched this morning at bart police told them that they had to go. for safety reasons. now in the video you see that the man's legs are outstretched, police are cracking down on that, and anyone who is sleeping or lying down, the long hallways in the station is a particular concern for police who described this new policy as a safety measure to ensure they can evacuate these stations in four to six minutes in case of morning. now regular bart riders said they support the policy, but we also spoke with another man who'd be sleeping here at the station told by police he would have to go. >> reporte
